Is Nintendo considering a name change for the Wii U? Rumor has it that both Japan and the US sides of Nintendo are contemplating a name change for the system. Why would they change the name now? It all has to do with the confusion surrounding the 3DS.
Nintendo is having trouble convincing consumers that the 3DS is a brand-new system and not just another redesign of the DS. If this rumor is true, Nintendo is looking to avoid that situation all over again. Why confuse people and make them think Wii U is just a redesigned Wii?
