Silicon Knights - Eternal Darkness II isn't too much to ask for, anything's possible

"I don't think it (Eternal Darkness II) is too much to ask. Certainly we love Eternal Darkness. It's a project that's near and dear to our hearts." - Silcon Knights' Denis Dyack

Dyack said that a sequel is often requested of his team, but he cannot comment what they're working on right now. When pushed for comment on a possible next-gen sequel, Dyack stated that anything is possible.

Well they've basically confirmed it, remember a few months back when they said "Our next game is the most requested game we've gotten."

Yeah except doesn't nintendo own the rights to that series? I know for sure they own the rights to the insanity system. But I am fairly sure they own the actual IP as well.

he and his company need new project, i don't think they would refuse any work , and that's perfectly understandable and normal

Wii U time, come on...

They did their best work for Nintendo. I can't see it harming Nintendo if they let Silicon Knights make an Eternal Darkness sequel for Wii U, as long as it is at least almost as good as the first one.

Yep! When the trademark for Erernal Darkness was renewed, it was done by Nintendo, so they have to own the IP in order to trademark it right? If there is going to be a sequel, than it would have to be on a Nintendo system, because I don't think Nintendo would let Silicon Knights put the game on any other system, or it would of happened by now. So it looks like SK is going to come crawling back to Nintendo, after the disaster that was Too Human for Microsoft, and the crap that was their Marvel licensed game for Activision.

Wii U - RIGHT THERE - take it.

EDII and TS4 being confirmed for it this year would send me into a total fangasm. :D

... EDIT: That said. Am curious as to how a 3D ED would work out on the flipside.

Ugh. I'd rather have Retro make an Eternal Darkness sequel. Silicon Knights have only churned out stinkers these last few years. Eternal Darkness was great, but it had a few rough spots. Now it seems Silicon Knights rough spots are massive fractures within their games.

The company has gotten a bad rep lately. Might as well do it if Nintendo is just going to let the IP collect dust.

@BelievingWolf

No, this is Silicon Knight's series, they deserve to keep working on it as long as they exist. I don't know who started that Retro Studios rumor, but it's pretty bogus. Why would Nintendo give Retro the franchise when it has its original developer available? Not to mention Nintendo has only ever given Retro Studios big name first party brands to work with (Metroid, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and maybe soon with Zelda). A big first party studio like that wouldn't be given a more obscure franchise title to work on, too much of a risk.

Nintendo is usually good about letting the original creators of one of their franchises continue to work on the franchise, if they're available and willing, that is... And Silicon Knights sounds like they very much are. And under Nintendo's wing, SK could produce a quality product again.

I would love a 3DS version :)
But a Wii U version would be extra sweet!!!

@Einar1025

Nintendo could have hired them to develop the game?

Either way, Im not sure how i should feel about this. Eternal Darkness is awesome, but I dont think I want SK developing it.

If they really make a new Eternal Darkness and it's nearly as good as the first one, all I can say is:

Imagine the possibilities with the Wii U interface... A gamer can dream, right?

@LegendofSantiago
Really? I'd go for Operation Insanity Effects-fall. :lol:

Eternal Darkness II would be a great fit on the Wii U. That game had an amazing concept and gameplay. On another note, I am really believe a starfox revival is coming on the Wii U. I think the game would have a perfect marriage with the system(starfox has always been about graphics and new hardware technology). It would make so many gamers happy. I also don't think anyone would expect it. Eternal darkness II or starfox coming out on the Wii U would make the Wii U a must buy for me.

SK's output in recent years has been terrible.
Nintendo should keep them away from doing a sequel.
