Analyst claims Wii U to have 50% more processing power than 360/PS3

Confirmed - thanks Technick!

Coming from the latest issue of Game Informer...

"Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia says that developers told him the Wii U will have 50 percent more processing power than the Xbox 360 and PS3, but Nintendo hasn't confirmed this rumor."

If anyone has the latest issue of Game Informer, I would appreciate a confirmation/denial of this information.

Didn't know the Wii could do that.

RMC, its in an article called "Next gen rumor roundup.". GI quotes this guy, then their editors note says, "50 may be a large number but given the age of the ps3 and 360 as well as the possibility that the next xbox could be six times more powerful than the 360, this may be less impressive than it sounds. Rumor probability: likely"
So its just a rumor, again we won't know anything until June...

You cared enough to post. Seriously though, this happens at the launch of every new console (especially Nintendo's) and i for one love every minute of it. The dizzying highs when positive rumors fly and soul crushing, depressing lows when the opposite happens. Its like crack for the hardcore videogamer XD

processing power? that's nice. lets get some actual stats and info about the hardware.

Two thoughts.

First, this fits on the low end of my prediction that the WiiU is 1.5 x to 2.5 x as powerful as current HD consoles.

Second, often the information in the Game Informer is 6-8 weeks old because of printing lead times. So that maybe from a previous version of the dev kit. Unfortunately anonymous sources tell no complete tales.

Hasn't it already been confirmed that different developers got different devkits from Nintendo?

I agree that all the rumors are getting old, but isn't that half the fun? At least there is something fun to discuss and speculate about.

That was my favorite part of the time leading up to the Revolution/Wii. All the rumors, discussion, speculation, and finally...being blown away at E3 that year.

All this back and forth is grinding, but it's all we have until June, so I'd rather have that than nothing at all. If no one was spreading rumors and each rumor wasn't getting picked apart and analyzed, that would mean that the Wii U was already dead on arrival. Plus, it all adds to the hype and hype is a good thing for a new console to have on its side.

crazy people are crazy , never seen something like those demos so no it's over well over , the problem might be that there isn't simply more than they can do that consumers will notice . And if that's the case , well paying for online gaming is still going to bring people

Unless we are ignoring the power7 chip and judge the power by the rumored cores and clockrate only, i would say its likely.

Well, judging from the source and wording of the article, this isn't any more accurate than the other rumors we've heard on both the high and low end of the spectrum.

But, assuming it is true, the Wii had "50% more processing power" than the Xbox, and there were around...one maybe two games over the course of the Wii's life cycle that actually looked like it.

I have a feeling even after e3 we will not know any firm details on its specs.

We probably never will from Nintendo themselves, they kept their lips shut on the Wii's innards for its entire lifecycle.

But hopefully they'll be some more in-game footage and playable demos that will give us a more accurate feel for where it's at approximately.

Well, I think to most readers here, they think that you are one of the gamers that think that the Wii U is just a Wii with a tablet controller until there is more information revealed E3 2012.

There has been gamers that believe that the Wii U is just a Wii with a tablet.

I like the bottom comment that the Wii U may not go under that silly name. I don't think Nintendo is going to be as successful in drawing in the mini-game/fitness crowd as they were with the Wii. Those people are either going to stick with the original Wii because it's "good enough", or just play cheaper content online or from apps.

Much like their last few systems before it, it's time to move on and find a new name for the system.

E3 2012 or bust.

And for me, IMO, it will be about 'good games' as it has always been, despite dualistic arguments about hardware and it's power.

Like I said before, I think the power gap between the Wii U & the XBOX 720/PlayStation 4 would be as big as the power gap between the PlayStation 2 & the Nintendo GameCube/XBOX (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the PlayStation 2 is the weakest console compared with the Nintendo GameCube/XBOX, but the PlayStation 2 is not as significantly as weak as the Wii).

I'm not so sure if that is necessarily a good thing or not.

"So confusing. Half of the time, the so called "anonymous developers" said that the Wii U is slightly less powerful than the XBOX 360/PlayStation 3. And now, the Wii U is 50% more powerful than the XBOX 360/PlayStation 3. It's like the rumors are switching back and forth."

Well it all comes down to the dev kits. So some of these things that these developers are saying might actually be spot on back on version 1, or 2 of the dev kits, like 7 to 9 months ago. But we're talking about them being up to version 5 now, so obviously things are going to change over time. Smaller developers wouldn't have the latest dev kits, like a EA, Ubisoft, or Activision would, so they're probably going by the old spec, and its most likely these "anonymous" small developers who are leaking this info.

I don't see why the power really matter so much to people. I mean its going to be a full HD 1080p console, so as long as its in the same ballpack as the NeXboX, and PS4 it should be just fine. Its not like full 1080p HD graphics are going to look bad anytime soon. As long as the Wii U can run the same games as the other consoles, does it really matter if its a little less crisp? Its not like people are throwing away their 360's and PS3, just because games look better on the PC right now. It will be the same with the Wii U. It will look good enough to the point where no one will even care about it!

I maaaaaaaaaay just skip out on a whole generation of Nintendo home console. Such a shame. At least until various titles are released and the system has dropped way down in price. Heh.
