Pokemon AR Searcher, Pokedex Pro - more details

Pokemon AR Searcher

- Pokemon that you catch in this app can be carried over to Black & White 2
- released through the e-Shop opposite Black & White 2 on June 23
- ¥300

Pokedex Pro

- updated version of the original Pokedex 3D
- released on July 14th
- ¥1,500
- original Pokedex 3D will be yanked from the eShop on June 17
- SpotPass updates for the older app will continue through the end of 2012

These two 3DS eShop apps are only available to those with the 3DS. If you want the full Pokemon Black/White 2 experience, playing through backwards compatibility on 3DS makes the most sense.

The Pokedex 3D app was neat for a little while, but I don't see myself buying this Pokedex Pro when it comes over to North America.

So these are happening but no 3DS version of the retail game? Can I just get an upres'd version of the game so I don't have to see the DS game on such crap resolution.. Probably going to pass on B&W 2 altogether

Uh...that must be SOME upgrade if they're going to charge ~$20 for an upgraded Pokedex 3D, which I appreciate being free but definitely would have never payed for.

The Pokedex update is seriously that much?

I'm getting it anyways, but wow. Wonder what they put in it.

It'll probably be 15$ here... I can't wait to see how much it'll be better!

I guess you'd have to play on 3DS to transfer, but if you want to use that Pokedex while playing, you're going to have to play it on on something other than your 3DS since you can't use any other apps while playing DS games.

I like the idea of catching pokemon in the AR thing will catch pokemon in your game. Pretty sweet.

That's pretty pricey for the Pokedex Pro. I guess it all depends on the amount of content they pack in, but right now, I'm leaning toward 'probably not.'

The AR game, however, is a different story!

Hmm. Hopefully they'll be a cheaper [temp] pricepoint for those who already have the original Pokedex 3D at the time of Pro's release.

Why would they make it cheaper for people who have a free app? Wishful thinking at its blindest.

I guess so. And actually £10 for 493 (+2 formes) new 3D pokemon is probably not that bad, tbh.

The AR thing is cool.

What they are doing to the Pokedex is not.

@Chosenoneknuckles

It'd be one thing if the Pokedex was actually giving you something to do with those Pokemon.

493+ 3D models to take pictures of when you're bored is not worth that much by a long shot.

If they combined the two? As in, the Pokedex allowed you to AR scan stuff and send them to your game, then yes, I guess so, but it's two different things, so the Pokedex costing money is ridiculous.

Not if you use Nintendo's usual 100 yen = 1 dollar conversion. Just because the dollar is weaker now doesn't mean they can start to charge people in the states more money. Everyone here is still making the same amount which means they will still want to spend the same amount. This is why Nintendo's profits have dropped a bit. (Weakening currencies around the world)

We did get the original free, though. Surely no one on here was seriously thinking that any 'region packs' would also be such?

Also, I'll be interested to see whether these models will be one in the same as the ones in a new Snap / Stadium/XD or Gen VI on the 3DS too.

The pricing seems quite high, perhaps there is a lot more we don't yet know that''ll be unveiled later on. The Ar searcher seems nice and I'd be interested in getting it.

So you have to pay for it now, but now you can actually "catch" Pokemon in the AR game and put them into your B/W2 game card? That's kinda nice, except that according to the 3DS my entire house is almost completely too dark to play in, so it might not be the best thing to spend money on for me. But I can definitely see how they'd want to get SOME money off of something that popular.

Same here. They release it on the ds for some quick short term cash then throw some crappy side games at 3ds owners for a cost and call it the "full experience," genius!

Hell even as a second party I expected more from a company associated with the likes of Nintendo. Looks like I'll just stick to Nintendo, Valve, and a select few third parties who avoid pulling tactics like this.
