RUMOR - Nexon trying to buy EA

In what must be a rather surprising turn of events, game developer and publisher Nexon has apparently put forward a takeover bid. If this is true, this is basically a case of a company that makes most of its money from free-to-play games attempting to buy a publisher that makes its money from paid-for titles, like Madden NFL.

If it's true, then I certainly didn't see THAT coming. XD Seems unlikely though.

Not really, EA is in pretty dire financial straits lately. The Old Republic's development ballooned so out of control that they're bleeding cash like a stuck pig, DA2 failed to live up to expectations and ME3 did as well. Basically EA bought out BioWare, ran them into the ground and then made ridiculous assumptions based on their imaginations of how popular BioWare games are. Combine that with softness across the board, and the fact that they're in the process of laying off 1,000 people worldwide, and it's clear that a buyout of EA is not a funny prospect, it's a very, very bad sign for the industry as a whole.

they are top heavy and are pissing off customers at every turn. they will fall and die, someone will pick up the pieces worth having, and life will go on, or if they don't get bought out/fail one of two things can happen. 1, they go even more full on evil and run even more things into the ground, or 2, they put someone else in charge who gets the business, they downsize a bit and try to back to the business of putting out quality titles. They've been going downhill for 4 years now. but nexon doesn't have the chops to buy ea atm.

I always knew they had a fair share of money but on this level? This is rather shocking.

@Orian

I just think it would be funny because they're the ones always buying studios.

@Hawk
Yes, the irony here is friggin PALPABLE, haha.

And you know what? I'd actually like it if they got bought. Whatever the new guys want to do with the company, it can't be worse than what EA is doing now!

I don't know, it seems like two bad companies would be joining forces to become something even worse.
