Patent filing shows Wii U controller stand/base/charger...something

We aren't quite sure what this is, but it looks like some kind of charger or base for the Wii U controller. It would only make sense for this device to both cradle and charge your Wii U controller when not in use. Sounds like a pack-in to me! Thanks to Stewox for the heads up!

I'm glad there is a stand for it. I don't think it is a big deal, but that is a lot better than some people laying the controller around carelessly and it will get less scratched up for them that way.

The stand could be really great even in gameplay actually. :)

@TheBitBlock

Online Battleship from the Wii U eShop, haha

That would make sense, seeing as how there are metal connectors on the bottom of the UPad.

Actually, this is probably so you can use the Wii Remote with it. Remember that there's a sensor bar built into it. I've been wondering how they were going too make use of it. It doesn't really work if you have to hold the tablet and aim the Wii Remote at it unless you're talking about two people here. It's basically giving you two Wiis for the price of one Wii U, expect one has a really tiny screen.

@Mirr0rR3flection After the 3DS, I've expect a stand to come with this too!

Like with wires [in general], I can't wait for batteries in gaming to bugger off.

A chargeable battery included would be awesome! :)

i knew (hoped) they would be going with that form factor , because of the 3ds one obviously , but also because that way the screen can always be visible . It's an interactive and useful , automated display . Invite , swapnotes , second screen to aim the wiimote at . heck even a simple digital photo frame ! because it could be updated wirelessly easily by people sending photos to their relative . Something they hinted that during the iwata ask swapnote interview

No more disposable batteries please Nintendo

It's a cradle for car so you can use the pad as a GPS controller.

Either that, or a diaper.

How could you complain about buying batteries? There are rechargeable batteries out there!

Now I would never buy regular batteries or standard rechargeables anymore, because Sanyo has Eneloop AA and AAA rechargeable batteries developed. These babies just work!

The Wii U patent picture also shows the Wii U IR-Port for controlling your remote stuff in your living room?
Since the Wii U Controller will feature a built-in battery pack, it should last up to 5-10 h straight. Playing a cool game all evening long with your friends and the Wii U Controller says "empty" that's a sad.

I wish this would be packed in with the Wii U but we will have to wait and see. Sure the 3DS got the charger stand packed in but would nintendo do the same for the Wii U? Let's hope!

Yeah I don't know why people are complaining about having to buy batteries. If you just spend around $30 on a rechargeable batteries and the plug-in to charge them with, then that's a heck better than spending $60 or more a year (Depending on how much you play).

Kind of looks like an Apple iPhone dock or something. So that does look like a dock.

Agreed. -_-

I'm done having to buy rechargeable batteries. I'd like again from Nintendo a controller that doesn't require any form of charging. Wonder when that day will ever be.

It won't happen because you need to charge your controller and how would you play
