- version 5 of the dev kits are near final
- there was a delay in getting out these dev kits of around one month
- these are mass produced dev kits
- a small handful of Japanese devs may have had the V5 kits a tad earlier
- it seems that at least one game engine saw some improvement in how it ran from the V4 kit to V5
- if the dev kits are updated again, any refinements will be small
- One of the dev kit aspects (in comparison to the v4 ones) is '...original'
- the new dev kits also came with an additional bit of good news (no details behind this news)
Thanks to Jason for the heads up!

@bonesawisreadyI imagine it's going to be bigger than the Wii. How much? I don't know
Now with free black tape with rounded edges!
Perhaps the cord that was shown is just for recharging...like how the PS3 controller recharges with a cable. Just connect and charge while playing then just disconnect when charged.
@gtt
I was hoping the surprise was a hard drive, too. And with Nintendo's new focus on digital distribution, I don't think it's far-fetched.
More straight forward?.......dude, it's less than a month before E3. If he was more straight forward, he and his source would be more "dead" at the hands of Nintendo's Ninjas aka lawyers.
Hard drive? I'll buy one with money from my war chest set aside for Nintendo spending XD
While a built-in HDD could be possible, even in the Wii U's small case, it would add to much money to the cost of the console. There will be internal flash memory but that's it. 16, 32, 64GB's? Who knows how large the flash memory will be, but probably large enough to hold at least one full 25GB game, so I'd wager 32GB's built in, and of course it has an SD card slot and support for external USB HDD.
Something that I thought of a while back but never posted was the idea of running all games off of the flash memory. The flash memory is basically a solid state hard drive and faster then reading off of the optical disk or the PS360 disk based hard drives. The way it would work is when you launch a game from a disk it would start loading the entire game kernel (not videos & later levels) to the flash memory so data could be pulled instantly without spinning a disk.
Just a thought, but that would be a very cool feature IMO.
itt technology experts
they won't use the fast flash memory that is in SSD. they will use the slower cheaper kind.
Those examples I put there are not made up, thats what these gaffers said, no one lost a job or source, no walls of text or redundancy or encryption needed. And ideaman gave clearly straightforward rumors initialy ("wiiu games wont look better than 360 with controller usage"), his latter rumors are too vague; read the info, every big third party should get one of these kits soon, nintendo wouldnt be able trace the leaker. He claims he will be proven right at E3, but so far, nothing he has said can be confirmed at E3. Im still expecting his pre-E3 rumor topic.
nobody is going to track you down , say it or don't say it but from all the "top tier" contributors .... oh well i'm reading it after all , but bottomline i don't think he has any valuable to me information
and that continuous reference to rayman legends is really annoying , because anyone could have guessed that , in fact i think everyone did , people just forgot about that game
I know SSD's are expensive, but could it be possible, even if it's just a small 4GB one exclusively for that purpose. Humm, now that I think about it it would make more sense to just give the system 2GB's of ram to hold the full kernel.
i just meant it should be sleeker than the wii, i know it cant get any sleeker but would be nice...still want black thou
i know it wont be smaller i just want it to look a bit more sleek and hi- tech looking similar to how the 360 is bigger than the orignal xbox but its sleekness doesnt make it look that way and i still want black wii u
If it helps in any way, the same gaf user says it wont look like the E3 prototype. Pinch of salt.
It's because Ideaman has sources and he wants people to piece together the information without going on record of saying it. "Journalist's Integrity" I believe it's called (could be wrong on the term). Something can be implied or hinted at but not actually said. Meaning if Ideaman was caught giving information, he can back up his case by showing not once did he outright give the exact details.
Even then, who cares? E3 is less than a month away. May will be over quite soon, so keep your shirt on.
Ehhhhh, journalism integrity that is not. More like attention seeker. The other sources there (other journalists and devs) either dont say anything or go straight to the point.
This rumor is so vague I could have made it up without knowing anything and later claim I was right. Thats what I cant stand.
Only afew weeks until all becomes clear...
This is starting to sound more like a "you" problem then. Seriously, the guy has to be careful about breaking Non-Disclosure Agreements so he can maintain contact.
I agree with the people saying they can't stand ideamans posts.
Way too vague for my tastes.
@DeAngelo Guillory
Im not the only one annoyed by his teases and refurbished rumors, and the amount of detractors is increasing, so no, is not a "me" thing. All his rumors are predictable (and only happen after other similar rumors have popped out) but impossible to prove since its all old dev kit stuff.
At least someone is on-topic.
I really want to see the games now though. I am curious as what that "surprise" is supposed to be, but I think we get the big picture of the U now, so let's see som real games in action, not tech demos
FACT ubisoft has had the most complate versions of the dev kit the longer of most the 3rd partys and
There will be a version of beyond good and evil 2 for the wii u besides rayman that is ubisofts other big game for launch. why at launch simple games at launch have a bigger chance of selling this is tbeyond good and evils 2nd chance to become a top end selling series and near the wii U launch is its time. it will pop up early in the wii u life cycle so it can sell it may be late if something goes wrong. nintendo also wants this to be there 3rd party zelda filler.
beyond good and evil 2 runs a next generation "For consoles " (lulz current mid to low end direct x10 and direct x 11 PC specs) graphics engine will scale up from wii U to accommodate for high end PC specs, it is on wii U because of limitations of the ps3 and xbox 360 AKA RAM. They needed a butt load of ram and they want to use the tablet.
WHY use the tablet.
simple it will be the Camera and other gadgets for the game so the WII u version will be considered the main platform. The beyond good and evil devs saw that tablet and the fact the wii U hardware solved there ram issues and jumped ship a while ago it has been in devolpment for the wii u since they herd about it.
A sorry ass version may still pop up on xbox 360 or ps3 however and look like crap though it has been said they canned those version when the game go to big to contain on those weak old ass consoles.
Nope. Not credible enough. At least try to make yourself look credible by using spell check and have a friend with an English major proofread/correct your work.
Cool cant wait to see Wii U at E3 so it will be the final build at E3?
