Molyneux calls Wii U 'slightly lackluster'

Coming from Peter Molyneux...

Nintendo's slightly lack lustre Wii U is going to have to blow us away with better specs and great 1st party line up.

Well, that's a real shame to see. I would think Molyneux would have more sense than to make statements about a system prior to knowing what games will be available.

So far I've yet to see anything that doesn't make me think the Wii U is anything but lackluster. Lackluster is putting it mildly.

I was excited for last years E3, now I couldn't care less about this years.

Remember where this is coming from. This is the same guy who said, that Kinect was the future of gaming, and traditional games controllers got it wrong. Now that he's left Microsoft, I bet he will be singing a different tune, when his crap Kinect Fable game gets ripped apart by reviews. You'd think since now he can make a multiplatform game again with his new studio, that he wouldn't say something as stupid as this right before E3. Why piss off Nintendo fans, when you might actually want to put your next multiplatform game on their system?

"Molyneux's slightly lack lustre Fable series is going to have to blow us away with better gameplay and great NEW ideas"

Is what Nintendo should reply with.
No offense to Molyneux, he's probably a nice bloke, but Fable just keeps getting worse and worse

@Leon2457
Fable was shovel to begin with.
His earlier games like Syndicate were much better.

There seems to be a bias in Europe to high tech. At least that is my impression from reading Regis and websites. So for him to call something that is only 2x as powerful as current high end lackluster shows there are expectations for much more from Microsoft and Sony.

I also wonder is Spike broadcasting the presses or just commenting on them? Any company that is broadcasting one console makers commercial as a exclusive news event could be thought of as being biased.

That's funny, because lackluster is also the word I would use to describe the end results of his games after all his bold promises of sheer brilliance.

Anybody up for some Milo...ooooh right.

FollowMeAround wrote:Geez, guys. Everyone of us here has produced something lackluster. It's pretty pointless to attack him just for using that word. He's critizising the system as we know it now. I know a bunch of us are hyped for it, but when we know practically nothing about the first party or launch lineup or all of the systems features or the final specs and capabilities, it's not hard to imagine someone being unimpressed or skeptical. It's a shame he considers the specs to be really important in blowing him away but I wouldn't be surprised if his tune changed after E3.

Isn't that kind of like walking up to someone who just put their brush to the canvas and saying "Hey man, that painting sucks"? Calling something lackluster when very little is known about it, is rather redundant. And I would say it is fair for people to make cracks at HIM calling something lackluster, when he over-hypes his own games and then doesn't deliver on half of his promises every single time. I don't have anything against him, but seriously, he blows so much smoke out of his ass about his own products that he should have been charged with damaging the environment by now.

Hmm, I don`t really know if that means he knows the specs and hopes they`ll get better or if he doesn`t...

I need to see less 3rd party more 1st party Wii"U" games so that it becomes unlacklusterfied in my eyes. Now the specs I could careless. (■˛■¬)

Molyneux is, and always has been, a joke, except for his kid who knows what he's talking about about HL3

I don't get why people keep making all these judgments about things we barely know anything about. Welcome to the Internet, I guess.

@gtt

"hey now, if anyone knows lackluster, it's this guy."

No offense, but Molyneux saying that Wii U is lackluster is like Christopher Nolan ripping on Avengers. There's some bias here. Molyneux, even with his own studio, is pretty much in Microsoft's pocket, especially over the last decade. So he might be a little biased.

I agree with him.

The E3 2011 unveiling was not the best. They used a New Super Mario Bros. demo for the very first thing we saw of the system and then not even a single first party title was shown. And the "huge" title that we were supposed to be really excited for according to Reggie was a LEGO game.

Not a good first impression either way.

The Zelda demo was awesome, but there is no game coming from that. :(

I can say I, personally, won't be able to be impressed at E3 2012. The franchises that have any shot of showing up for the Wii U right now are not anything I'm interested in.

Well that's too bad for you. I await to see what is presented and will determine if I like it or not.

And I guess he won't be developing anything for it...

on the other hand.... i would think Molyneux already knows everything about wiiU as well as many of the new games that are coming out for it! ;) think before you post. that guy is not your average forum posting fan boy. he is a game development paragon. he knows a lot more than you and me!

Oh wow. This will be the first ever named report that's actually negative about the Wii U. I guess he was expecting something like a 20-CPU overheating monster instead of new and innovative ways of playing games. Too bad for him, I almost pity him for his upcoming bankrupcy.

The man just left a first party Microsoft development studio, and barely started working on new games at his new studio.
He hasn't announced any games and isn't working on the Wii U. He knows next to nothing, just like the rest of us.
Think before YOU post.

You know next to nothing just like the rest of us. What are these franchises you speak of?
I know that a lot of unannounced stuff will be shown at E3. And I know you will watch E3 just like the rest of us, whether you will be impressed or not.

Just because something isn't announced doesn't mean we can't logically conclude that it is very unlikely to show up at this time.

The franchises that could get me really excited: Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing.

Super Smash Bros.: Was just started the very beginning of development. No chance of showing up at this E3 and being a Wii U launch title.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was just released. It's absurd to expect an new Zelda to be shown this E3.
Animal Crossing: Is coming out for the 3DS. Obviously won't be on the Wii U for a few years.

Now there are completely random things like an Pokemon MMO that could excite me, but that would be so far out of the left field. It would be unprecedented in so many ways. So that's EXTREMELY unlikely. So much so that I feel ridiculous even bringing it up.

The surprises that might actually happen are stuff like Metroid, Star Fox or F-Zero and I have zero interest in those series, so I wouldn't personally be excited.

And I know you will watch E3 just like the rest of us, whether you will be impressed or not.

I will be watching it, but mainly for Animal Crossing 3DS and other 3DS games' info.
