Let the Nintendo E3 bashing begin!

It didn't take long at all for the big-name analysts and commentators to start bashing Nintendo. Here's what David Gibson, Head of Software & Services for Macquarie Capital Securities Japan said about today's Nintendo Direct.

At E3, already Nintendo announcement on WiiU but non event,pro controller is copy of 360,browser support coming -too late!

Real class act that guy is! My favorite part is how he ignored everyone else Nintendo talked about. Who cares about all the online interaction, community features, unique spin on conversation, Wii U GamePad redesign, Miiverse and everything else?

Browsers are old news and the Wii U Pro Controller is a total ripoff! Yeah, that's sticking it to Nintendo!

Nintendo bashing and doom predictions are normal, no point in getting worked up over it. Nintendo could announce the most awsome console ever powered on alien tech 100000x more powerful than x360 with the most amazing online and all but it woudnt help stop those negative comments anyway.

I'm just happy to have a controller for Smash, honestly. I don't give a damn what it looks like, I just want it to be solid, last a long time and play well.

I hope still for the GC replica wireless controller with vibration for the VC games. Lord knows that thing will always be my controller of choice for Super Smash Bros.

Nintendo's power grows from bashing made by idiots.

lol microsoft and sony the one that copied everything , it's not an argument , it's a fact . No just don't go quoting obscure atari pad , the problem is between those three , and from analog to diamond shaped , from side button to motion gaming ... in 3d , nintendo did it way better and well first
the analog on ps are a joke , the dpad on xbox is laughable , i don't care for analog fps gaming but still i don't see the problem with nintendo here .

I don't think he's bashing or anti-Nintendo. He's a financial guy who noted in the last Nintendo investor meeting that it's been the emptiest he's seen for a while. Actually he was the one live-tweeting the Investor meeting earlier this year and his twitter acount was widely shared.

I think he already has the narrative that Nintendo is doomed/behind/late in his head but not really out of malice. That said, The fact that he missed Miiverse and the social aspects of the presentation indicates he may have missed the point of the presentation.

I think it's pretty lame that the WiiU Pro controller looks so much like the 360 controller, especially since the Classic Controller Pro was so much like the PS controller.

I laugh at everybody who is screaming about the WiiU Pad being a copy of 360's controller. This is so funny. All it copies is the actual shape and the triggers. The rest, Nintendo did first anyway lol.

late for what, in what time? are you a greck god or something like that stupid ass hole? You do think you're Chronos? The Wii had a browser and could play youtube as well and a controller pro with a real d pad. Fuch you mormon!

Lot of damage controlling and white knighting about the controller.

It's a copy of the 360 controller. Get over it. Doesn't matter if everyone else copies Nintendo usually, it's still a copy.

But it's also not a bad thing. I love the 360 controller (except the D-pad), so this will be great to play SSB with AND is a nice transition for me since I mainly play my 360 and Wii.

Also, not sure what the browser comment is even about. Wii had a browser.

In fact, the 360 still doesn't have a browser. Sounds like an obvious troll.

Nobody should be MAD about the WiiU Pro being a 360 controller.

@MalikHalo

How is that lame? They are good controllers.

@kernal

Well, Nintendo did scoff at the idea of Online and Miyamoto or whoever was all "ONLINE'S NOT GOING TO BE AROUND IN A COUPLE OF YEARS. IT'S JUST A FAD" or something.

It's too bad that some really uneducated get the podium much too often in our media culture. I predicted some of what Iwata said without a whisper from the press leading up to today's video. My prediction of a classic controller specific to Wii U was dead on. I expect a revision of the Wii Remote as well though unless you consider the Wii U gamepad to be an evolution of that concept.

If anything the Xbox and Xbox 360 controllers were ripoffs of the Sega Dreamcast controller and not the Gamecube's controller.

And like MoldyClay said it's a copy of the 360 controller. If someone showed you a picture of it without a Wii U or Nintendo logo on it the first thing you would think is "Is that a new 360 controller?"

But that's not a big deal in the slightest. As long as it's comfortable and completely useable than who cares if it's similar to another companies controller. I use the 360 controller on my PC for games and I personally like the controller and it's a far better option than the Wii's Classic Controller Pro.

As far as the browser goes I don't know if he means the entire Nintendo Network or just a browser. I mean who cares about the browser. It's not a selling point to a system and most people stick to their computers to browse the internet anyways. I have a browser on my PS3 and Wii and I don't use either one.

so it's ok for the media not to say that playstation allstars is a clone of smash bros and that the kinect and PS move are versions of the wii. yet people like this guy nitpik on nintendo over this controller, whilst it does bear a little resemblance to the xbox controller, is not as similar as these analysts/trolls make out to be?

yeah, ok. whatever. :roll:

yeah.. that was hand over face/head shaking-ly bad moment.. they were naive but they are coming around and i feel doing it in a very "nintendo" way. buuuut, if you want to get serious about, hiroshi yamauchi had been trying to get internet functionality into its consoles since the famicom. even if it wasnt quite called the internet.

and i think what we all take issue with, is this guy, who is part of the industry in some capacity, is about as mature as your typical ign poster... and about as ill-informed as one as well.

You guys have to understand that this is the exact same guy who claimed to have "inside information" that stated that Capcom refused to bring any more Monster Hunter games to the US, based solely on "poor Wii version" sales. The same guy who was destroyed by Capcom's VP, himself, upon hearing of the tweet.

This guy is a Nintendo hater, plain and simple. Please don't get too riled up about this.

Has the man ever seen a Gamecube controller?
User avatar
04 Jun 2012 14:10

Personally I found the Gamecube controller to be most comfortable, but the Xbox360 is a very close second.

Who gives flying f**k that this is a blatant copy of what is pretty much widely regarded by most as the more comfortable controller on the market right now.

@delpiero
360 has Internet Explorer coming to it. Announced today but was leaked weeks ago.
