Hutchinson admits that E3 demos were absolutely filled to the brim with violent content, but that isn't the only thing the industry has to offer. Of course, when a big event like this gets media attention, it's not exactly the best thing to have nothing but violent demos pouring onto websites and TV programming.

Yeah the Far Cry 3 trailer disgusted me. Not the violence, but the sexual content and swearing.

Yeah it's a bit ironic that it's coming from a guy working on a few very violent games for Wii U, but even still, nice to see he has an opinion.
Less ironic if he's working on Rayman as well.

I clearly see the psychology of the analysts now, those who prophesize doom for the entire industry. It's not that the industry is dying, it's just that it wants assisted suicide.
I heard the demo for The Last of Us was absolutely horrid. I also heard that the crowd was cheering after an enemy was beheaded. Yeah...
Rayman Legends demo during the Ubisoft conference = best of show imo.

And man, that Nintendo Land should just be called Nintendo Blood Bath. Shooting arrows at birds, throwing sharp paper ninja stars at evil paper ninjas, tackling a big headed character only to see their innards spit out in a gory fashion... sickening.
Uh, Ubisoft, you were the ones with a host that "only play[s] shooters".
I noticed this from E3 as well...and then subsequently LITERALLY went out and sold about 7 games, from Skyrim and Battlefield 3 to Dark Souls and Kingdoms of Amalur...none of which did I actually have the desire to see through to completion.
I think I've reached a phase of my life where I no longer crave violent, dark, or serious games...and I honestly sort of loved Nintendo's showing purely for the fact that it had plenty of lighthearted or somehow charming games. I also happened to cancel my preorder of AC3, and I've been a huge fan of the series beforehand. Something about the new settings doesn't really appeal to me like traversing cathedrals in Venice..
In any case, I hope the videogame market somehow turns loose from so many "mature" games, and starts churning out more inventive characters and universes. Some AAA 3d platformers(can we give the 2d throwback thing a break for a couple of games, Mario, Rayman?) like SMG would be nice, and Nintendo doesn't have to be the only company who gives us this type of stuff, cause we have to wait too long between meals!
Tell that to all the companies, Ubisoft included, that keep making games centered around shooting, killing, assassinating, and otherwise displaying uber-manly-men being ultra violent with no remorse or repercussions.
This is a point the industry needs to step to to other genres and give them the "substance" they try to give shooters.
But I also understand the main reason they keep doing them is because they sell, they have more guidelines in how to make them and finally because conflict situations are the only thing that seems to encourage a deeper way of storytelling.
I don't like the abundant presence of killing either. But still, Mario and Link aren't the most peaceful guy's either. I hate to say it, but in many cases the killing might start right there
I have to admit I mostly look at the overall atmosphere of a game, not so much the amount of creature kills. Still I think I would love the possibility for Link to be able to cast away evil without always needing to kill every little thing on his path.
The Mother series always ended in that kind of note. Some like some didn't but it certainly give make its own feeling because of it.
