and if this ever gets polished enough to play full through to the end with a friend... well at this point I'm just hoping that Nintendo themselves are playing around internally with the idea of a multiplayer 3D Mario game. It'd be just about the coolest game ever.
How about demonstrating the split-screen by, you know, splitting up??? It looks like they're sharing the same camera, no reason for a split-screen at all.

You mean vertically, so each player has a side of the screen, that would be better for a 3d game like this, I think that's how Epic Mickey 2 does it.
I can see this working better for 3D Marios with the WiiU controller. I just don't think multiplayer would have been as good in Galaxy, because you either have a single screen but have to stay with each other, which would be a much larger nuisance than the linear side scrollers, or you split the screen and can go wherever, but the world's half the size to you.
Splitscreen multiplayer is what SMG2 needed to make it more unique imo.
Some sort of Challenge Mode between 2 players to reach an end goal on a distant planet would be cool. Racing through each planetoid trying to find the launch star, etc.
Nintendo has been toying with the idea of a 2 player 3D Mario since the original Mario 64. Now, they have enough power to do it, and they don't need to use a splitted screen (by using one or two WiiU gamepad). But yeah, I don't know if it was Koizumi or someone else, but he said that while it was a good idea, that wasn't what they were working on at the time.

I can't wait for super Mario Universe! The galaxy series are my favorite games of all time, I do wonder what else Nintendo can do
Oh uh... cool?
Ohgodnoes? It's Darth Vader dammit :p

Okay that's cool, but why have split screen if the camera is in the same spot? i don't even
Wow, that's pretty awesome

@CrispyGoomba
It's obviously still under development, the camera won't always be in the same place.
BTW, this reminds me that I still haven't played SMG2. I suck as a Nintendo Fan

2 Player Co-Op with 2 GamePads would be a very nice feature for Super Mario U.

Loved that Pink Bob-omb's reaction. X'D
this would be very cool! someone send this to nintendo! XD
...I sent this in 2 weeks ago... ._.
Do like to see the finished product.
How was this not a part of the game already. Crazy how long it takes Nintendo to make Mario games have true co-op, it is called Mario BROTHERS.
@Swedish_Otaku no, the 3d games are called Super Mario. 2d games (which feature co -op) are the ones called super Mario brothers.
wow i'd like to try that
I think you might find this little article interesting, it's from last years e3 http://m.wired.com/gamelife/2011/07/wii-u-mario-zelda/all/1
Thanks ! That was the article I was talking about. His exact words are :
