*sigh* Same painful, cramped grip, now with extra weight...
I would have preferred the extra size to focus on ergonomics instead, for me the entire DS line is incredibly uncomfortable and has put my hands through agony, but the 3DS with it's hopelessly, slippery circle pad simply takes the cake. The c-pad desperately needed a better grip and I don't see one...
Also, can't see where the stylus fits, it better be back under the buttons. There better be a tolerable D-Pad this time too.
I hope they've fixed the problem with dust getting under the screen cover. One of the only things that drives me crazy about the 3DS. Stuff gets under there and it's so distracting especially with the 3D on >_>

That's surprisingly ugly and they didn't even add the second analog stick. Just like with ds phat, I'll stick to my 3ds ghetto and just buy that extended battery circle pad pro from nyko when MH3 comes out (if ever).

Yeah, honestly that was blatant lying and I don't take kindly to them doing that to us.
Also, this thing looks incredibly ugly. I don't buy the redesigns, but you could not even pay me to get this design. It's so tacky and pointless.
He didn't lie, this isn't a re-design. The 3DS is still, and will always be, available. They're now offering a bigger one for people that want a bigger one (not everyone as there are portability trade-offs).
Also, frankly, he never said there would be no 3DS redesign? (Through a translator...) "I really feel like I'm satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it's the best for this generation. What we're thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld." Obviously they were long done with the design for a bigger 3DS (which keeps all the same controls and hardware), so what they're brainstorming now would be a new system.
And anyway, it looks great. The rounded corners are nice and inviting, and there's a better ratio of screen to bezel. Makes me want to pick up and play.

Oh, right. My bad. It's not a redesign it is a... it's a... um...
Seriously?
Yes, seriously. They sold parallel sizes of the DSi as well. Are memories that short?
Besides which, Miyamoto never said they wouldn't sell additional 3DS systems, re-designs or not. (Just because places like IGN/Gamespot plaster up big headlines mis-representing his quote, doesn't make them right.) So there's no need to get all offended.
All the hate is funny. This isn't for people who just want to upgrade from the 3DS to the 3DSXL. It's for new consumers. The bigger screens can be that final push for someone to purchase. Me being one of them. My eyesight is absolutely dreadful and when I lost my glasses it certainly didn't help. I'm going to get a 3DSXL and I'm going to like it for the larger screens. IDGAF if it looks tacky. It's helpful. If you decide to buy a 3DSXL then good for you, obviously the bigger screens are a good enough push. If you don't? Stop bashing it. It's not like you have the intent to buy anyway.
And for the love of god. It's not that ugly. I quite like it. The glitter sparkle sparkle in the org. 3DS was disgusting.

Just because one doesn't replace another does not mean that it is not a redesign.
By definition it means something has been changed, or revised. The 3DS is untouched and has not been superseded in any way. When a computer company like Apple takes a 15" laptop and adds a 17" version of it, no one goes around saying they've redesigned the laptop, they've just added a size option. The iPod mini wasn't a redesign of the original iPod, it was a parallel product with its own pluses and minuses, to be considered alongside the original. We don't need to redefine words just because you're applying them to games.
A boring, semantic argument? Maybe. But I can't figure out how you read so far into Miyamoto's translated quote that you a) claim it rules out a 3DS XL and b) rules it out so emphatically that you're now offended by it.
I suppose there's no bigger waste of time than suggesting people make measured reactions on the Internet.
Is the pen on the side again, like the DSlite/i?

If there is no plain old black at launch, I am not buying at launch.
EDIT: It sure looks like the stylus is located on the side. Convienient.
The telescoping stylus has been changed. Back to the normal DS style stylus, at least that's I thought somebody reported earlier.

I don't think they could have made it even uglier than this!
Congrats, Nintendo!
From all us people who need reading glasses: THANK YOU NINTENDO! (It's about time!).
{BTW, can you imagine how much tougher Kid Icarus controls will be on this?! Bah, who cares! I'm so glad it's coming)
For some reason this video makes me lol.
So... to buy, or not to buy? I would buy one, but having a normal 3DS, I'm not sure.. ._.
I'm very VERY surprised there isn't a second analog on this... I wonder if they'll make a circle pad pro attachment for it.
Long live Nintendo direct.
So what was all that talk just last week by Miyamoto saying there was no 3DS redesign in the works? Haha.
This looks nice, but I'm going to have to wait to pick one up until after Wii U anyway. Hopefully there's a few more color choices by then.

THIS! It's
THIS! It's annoying to say the least.

What happned nintendo. Everything you touch now is ugly.

You people are overlooking one of the improvements they implemented: the bumpers on the top screen. No more Circle Pad or screen edge impressions!

Oh no, I remember the DSi XL clear as day.

Please fix the dust problem.
