Coming from Good-Old J.R. himself...
"Still doing some finishing touches on the exciting, new THQ produced WWE13 and all I can say is that this game brings the ATTITUDE!"
WWE is really pushing the Attitude Era with this newest game, but I can't figure out why they're doing that. Sure, it'll be good for business, but how does it tie in with the current WWE product?

Who cares. Nostalgia sells!
Simple RMC the current product is nothing but a shell of what WWE/WCW was in the 90s therefore sell more products to the fans of that era that have left. My last WWE game i owned was the first smackdown vs raw that featured ECW (with ACTUAL ecw stars). Bought it to play as wrestlers i still enjoyed to watch. There are only a Handful of guys i like in the Newer generation of stars. Zigler, Brian Danielson (not Daniel Bryan as hes called now), Punk, and Shaemus. A product thats going to feature nWo DX Four Horsemen LOD and other stars of the 90s era will always get my attention.
Shame they have to rely so much on the past as a selling point. It really tells you how sad the current pro wrestling scene is these days.
Maybe this means they'll be making some changes going forward if they recognize what quality of the product is now. The decision to focus so much on the Attitude Era is big deal. If things were going fine or good the would not be going in this direction with the game. I'm happy they are as this is likely going to be the first wrestling I've played in more then a decade.
uWaAvenger (aka person with best avatar ever) summed it all up. This PG era is garbage, Attitude were the good days.
I hope this game will be awesome but nothing has topped day of reckoning for me.
I am still waiting for a must buy wrestling game because I have not bought a wrestling game since day of reckoning and i have tried all the new ones these days such as Legends of wrestlemania, smackdown vs raw, TNA, wwe all stars, etc and they just aren't fun for me
Bring back wrestlemania 2000, smackdown1-3, wcw vs the world, fire pro, day of reckoning, etc
Yes, i'd love if they announced a day of reckoning 3.
It's all about milking the diehards and cashing in on the few Attitude Era fans that are left. I had been a wrestling fan since the mid-late 80s, up until about the time Cena started getting pushed down our throats. I realize he sells a lot of merchandise, but he is incredibly dull and boring and it's the same old **** every week. It's not at all entertaining. They hit on good stuff once in a while, like the original Nexus angle a couple years ago and the Punk stuff last year (where gasp, Cena was actually tolerable!). But that is the exception. Ever since WCW & ECW went bankrupt, WWE either stopped caring or stopped knowing how to book compelling pro wrestling (I refuse to call it sports entertainment because that's just stupid).
This current product reminds me of the early-mid 90s (pre 1997) WWF. You had a bunch of the same kind of thing (the over pushed Hogan prior to his WCW departure in 93/94, Diesel who was the "new Hogan" and would not really connect with the audience until the nWo era), a bunch of jobbers no one cared about, and guys who fans wanted to see pushed not getting the chance (Bret Hart [prior to his first WWF title win in 92), HBK (prior to his first WWF title win in 96), Owen Hart, etc.)
The only thing that made the WWF change their formula was WCW's nWo angle that catapulted them in the ratings war and drew massive amounts of money. They HAD to change to stay in business. Supposedly it was the most trouble WWF had been in since the first Wrestlemania from what I've heard/read from various websites.
It will take another company to step up their game big time for WWE to change and a breakout star for them to hitch their wagon to (Austin being the guy for the post-1996 WWF). Despite their desire, Cena is not that guy. He doesn't connect to everyone, he only connects to little kids, women, and I guess people who don't know anything other than post-WCW WWF/E. Punk could be that guy I think given the opportunity, but creative (i.e. the McMahons) are too stupid, naive, or scared to do so. It's sad because wrestling was so good from 1996-2001 or so. I hope it returns to that eventually, but it doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon.
Back to the game, the last one I played was one of the SDVR games on 360. No Mercy was the pinnacle of WWF/E games in terms of gameplay. The graphics are quite dated now, obviously, but the gameplay was top notch. If they could marry the gameplay of No Mercy with the options of the old SD/SDVR games (i.e. match types, wrestler selection, etc.) then you'll have a great wrestling game and one you might even get old fans like me to want to buy. Because with the game, you can actually have Cena do what he should be doing, jobbing.
TL;DR: Wrestling has sucked since 2002 or so, and the game will need to be a blend of No Mercy & the SD series to be worthwhile probably.
It's still going to be a PG product coated with a thin layer of Attitude. Many things that made in past wrestling games again won't be featured in the game, like women wrestling guys and winning male titles.
This means NO Kharma or Beth Phoenix in the Royal Rumble and a Chyna CAW also cannot be used to win the Intercontinental Championship or enter the Rumble either.
