Vigil shares their frustrations on not being able to talk about Darksiders II on Wii U

A portion of a Videogamer interview with lead designer Haydn Dalton...

Q: THQ was one of the very first third-parties to jump on Wii U. You've got Darksiders II coming up for Wii U. Do you find it frustrating that - on the consumer-side at least - Nintendo is being very shy about the console's power? Is it frustrating to see people still having that argument when you know exactly what it can and can't do?

HD: Er...

Q: Do you wish Nintendo would just come out and say?

HD: Oh, of course. Yeah. It's awkward because when people ask questions about [Wii U] we've got to skirt around the answer. We obviously want them to come out with it because then we can just talk openly about the game. I'd rather just be open with people than spinning the answer back at somebody. As soon as they just come out and everything's revealed it would take a little bit of weight off us as developers so we can be a little bit more open about the product.

Can't wait to know all the details and have a clear idea what's unique with the Wii U version of the game.

Nintendo better reveal EVERYTHING about the Wii U in September. Graphics and power don't sell me a console, but it would shut everyone up if they could just come out and say what the system can do. We could also know what is so special about certain games, like Darksiders.

It better be something special for such an embargo.

Hopefully them skirting around the WiiU is a good sign that they hold respect for the console. I need to know how it is hardware-wise before I lay any money down.

Is not a next gen system, but capable of displaying HD graphics...it may have one or two things better than this gen, but nothing compared to MS or SCE offerings in 2014.

wait and see...

@Hommy Maiden it's a next Gen system by definition. Will Sony's and M$'s consoles have more power? Sure, but I think you are expecting too much

Indeed. Wii U is by definition, a next-gen console. If you want to go a little deeper, Wii U 's next-gen features allow it to something different from the current-gen machines.

In the past, console manufacturers primarily focused on hardware power because it was a natural evolution of graphics and the easiest way to hype gamers through visual stimulation. Back then, they were limited by technology and most companies only had small development teams. Back then, home consoles were known as dedicated game machines, but not anymore. However, we have seen other big contributions from previous home consoles besides offering just better graphics and the transition to 3D gaming. Gaming wouldn't be what it is today without them.

This is one of the 3rd party games I want to know the most about.

They probably won't, I don't think they did it for the 3DS and I don't think they'd do it for the Wii U. The general public has no interest in flops and Hz and potential poly counts, and gamers will write it off immediately because it's not as powerful as current gaming PCs. What will sell Wii U are games, and unfortunately they still have work to do in that department,

I don't understand why this specific game is embargo'd. I mean they showed 3rd party titles like Zombi-U and Batman at E3. Why is so much being held back on Darksiders II?

Not only thq is not supporting wiiu as much as other pubs (1 confirmed game, 1 semi cancelled, and rumored homefront 2), but their employees keep giving contradicting news about the system itself (uses pc assets but on par with current gen, etc). Its better they keep their mouths shut.

As soon as they just come out and everything's revealed it would take a little bit of weight off us[...]
