A better question about Mario is how anyone can swim in the sky? Mario/Luigi and the enemies can do that in the original version of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.
13. Magic. I don't even get the point in asking this when he's throwing fireballs out of a flower he ate in the first place. Throwing fire in water is irrelevant when he's generating fire in the first place out of nowhere.
12. Not sure I get the joke.
11. Nobody.

08. Pretty sure she turns into pure energy. Almost positive this was explained somewhere. Space Pirates tried copying it and killed themselves, though.
07. Not sure they do, really (despite the baby). He was later retconned to have more body parts, so it's not that weird.
06. Got me, but that creature can't put armor on itself.
05. Originally they didn't, and you can unlock a mode in REmake that doesn't. It was done to be less frustrating, but the original idea was that they didn't do that.
04. Obviously it was just cooked.
03. You don't. That's armor, not health.
02. That's not even a mystery. That's just trying to be funny and not. And his hair looks more normal since.
01. Back a little bit. You can't look straight down usually.

You can look down, and if you do you'll notice you not only have feet, but legs and a body. FPS's always give me the feeling you are just a gun with hands attached to it floating around more than being realistic. Of course it's not realistic to see your whole body either, but it makes for a much more fun game as far as I'm concerned. As for #12 not sure about the joke, but I would totally shop there, meat is delicious and that meat is very fresh, so probably even more delicious. #4 maybe it's cured meat, plus it looks delicious I don't know if I could resist eating it even if I did just whip it out of a wall. And I would imagine Cloud uses pomade, it doesn't take much to make your hair do whatever the hell you want (I used to use it) plus it doesnt get messed up in water, and if it does get smashed or something just fix it back real quick, no need to use more.

13. The real question is the why fire doesn't fizzle out in the water, and the answer is because that would be lame.
12. I don't think I get the joke either.
11. Level designers trying to make stuff that looks impressive.
10. Because the developers want to give you a chance to win.
09. They aren't fitting into pockets, just appearing and disappearing as needed.
08. Because the developers say so.
07. They don't, just like they don't actually exist.

Ugh, Brian Altano can be ok on the podcasts (or at least infinitely preferable to Scott Bromley), but I've never seen an article he's had a hand in that was actually funny. Since all he does is the funnies, that's kind of a problem.
I remember Shigeru Miyamoto actualy answering question "fire-under-water" No13 in an interview in an old videogames magazine:
Mario doesn't actualy shoot fire or flames from his hands when in water. He throws Sodium balls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgD0kCGpcwg
@austrian Not sure that actually works. In the video you posted, you'll notice that it's floating when it combusts, and the fire is actually above the water. I think the thing is that whilst water acts as a catylyst for the reaction, it still needs oxygen to actually burn.

This aluminum jumps all over the place in the water while being on fire, so the idea still stands. Water does contain oxygen, after all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg1yFyKofA4

How is it Sonic, his friends, and Eggman can breathe in space? That's a question that'll never be answered.
Uhmm... Greek Fire?

Remind me not to invite you to a party.
I laughed at the last question.
@Totodile Lol
A better question still; how does Mario breathe under water?
@MoldyClay
go away
Boom

Not entirely related, but: Putnam Whipple (from that point to about 1:40)
"He's a cartoon, therefore he doesn't need to breathe air"
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?"
I would like to know how Mario gets huge when he eats a mushroom?
You mean you don't get huge when you eat mushrooms?
@kingadrock
I saw this on didyouknowgaming a while ago. I thought it was pretty interesting
