Play different audio streams on Wii U GamePad than TV audio

Coming from Two Tribes...

We've got the first audio code running on Wii U. You can send separate audio to game pad and TV. Not sure yet if and how we can use that.

I guess this could have been done on the Wiimote, but was never really utilized. I really hope devs take advantage of this, using it for more than just sound effects.

Interesting. Not sure how that can be used.

I thought we knew this already

Wii Party used it pretty well IMO.

LIT used it really well.

When a phone rang and you pick it up, if sound in your Wii Remote was enabled, the girlfriend spoke through the phone. It was fairly cool.

Twilight Princess (and most Wii games) only did small things like sound effects. The Wii does have the capability for full-on audio through the Wiimote (as seen in the aforementioned LIT). That said, it would be cool to see it more often with Wii U games.

Hopefully this is used well. It could really make environments feel more "real" (in terms of audio).

It would also be great for a horror game.

Imagine hearing a random spooky sound on the WiiU Pad speakers, as if something scary was close. It would be a lot more interesting and engaging than hearing it from the TV, because it feels closer, as if something scary is within striking distance, or is breathing down your neck...

No more Heroes had it. Liked the phone thing :)

And it did really do a lot for TP in my opinion.

I have a game idea where you control two characters on both screens, who work together. To support this idea, audio would be playing from both screens. The TV would play atmospheric sounds while the Game Pad would play a beat. Both audio feeds would end up complimenting each other... I wonder how people would use this for things other than sound effects...

Resident Evil 4 Wii edition, Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams, Dead Space: Extraction, and Hudson Soft's first-person survival horror, CALLING, all made good use of the Wii remote's speaker.

The Wii Remote had the same capability. Not surprising they're keeping that functionality in the next console. I hope it's used better this time.

It was used well on the Wii for the little sounds, and while picking up a phone like in NMH was cool, the sound quality wasn't the best...

Yeah, this. A lot of games had great ideas to use it that just didn't pan out because the speakers kinda sucked. I could barely tell what the chick from No More Heroes was saying when she called...

I expect the quality will be a lot better than it was in the Wiimote since the gamepad can be used standalone.

An idea that came to mind just now was using it for the radio in Fallout. The Wii-U pad would be a perfect Pip-Boy, and having the radio audio come out of it would be a cool feature.
