Coming from our good friend Emily Rogers...
Nintendo attracting mobile developers. Game called "Star Beast" in development for Wii U's eShop. No idea on release date or game's genre.
Wouldn't it be interesting if Nintendo could actually get mobile devs to use the Wii U eShop as they do the iOS or Android shops?

But I thought mobile games were going to kill consoles!!!
Absolutely no reason why Nintendo shouldn't make sure that every big iOS game out there is running on 3DS and Wii U eShops.
Nintendo needs to match Apple's dirt simple licensing model. Developers and publishers hate risk, iOS is thought of as the lowest risk platform right now, Nintendo needs to step their game up.
Well the wiiu has the input method for all those games, it'll be nice to see what they can do on a real console
If this works...IF... then Wii U could be huuuge.
I'd much rather they concentrate on pulling over some of the indie developers that make games almost solely for steam.
Nintendo shouldn't even worry about pricing for the iOS stuff. Whatever it is on iOS they should allow those games to be the same price on the eShop and then if the business starts booming it will move some of those devs away from mobile back to the consoles and save them from destruction.
They are a few of those mobile games that i`d like to try but the problem is that i`ll never purchase a phone just so i can play these games.
That`s my reason for why handhelds can still be relevant.
I think Nintendo's biggest threat is going to be Ouya, the amount of finacial backing that Kickstarter gave the Ouya project they can do some serious damage to both Console and Mobile /iOS gaming
@J0RdAnN I don't see ouya getting serious support though
Remember when OnLive was going to be a threat for consoles? I'm not saying Ouya can't turn out differently but OnLive nearly filed for bankruptcy and had to be bought by another company yesterday or the day before. People really love jumping the gun on these sorts of things. Ouya could be huge for all I know, but it could also go the opposite direction.
@LegendofSantiago I'm 100% sure you already know this but Namco and Square Enix are already jumping on the Ouya bandwagon. Except they're going to offer games that we've already played before. So yeah, I agree with you on not getting serious support. (no sarcasm, last sentence kinda sounded like that
@CrispyGoomba you mean people won't buy a console to play the ds version of FF3 which is available on the DS, PSP, ios, and android?
Now, I believe that this is a good thing, but remember, the main reason why those iOs games are so popular is due to most people being bored at work or school. But I do see huge success in the Wii u's eshop if it is as easy and accessible as most of the indie devs are claiming.
the biggest issue i see with this is that on smartphones, games don't have to be rated by the esrb and game makers therefore don't have to pay the esrb to rate them or wait around for the esrb to finish the rating process. if these games are made for a video game console, they will have to be rated and whoever foots that bill will most likely pass those charges on to us, the consumers.
Suck it Ouya!
And Nintendo will still only allow three games per week.
Drtre81 found something to confirm that Star Beast is in development for Wii U/PC/Mobile.

Just wanted to pass this along.
Wait.. Isn't Emily Rogers the one who said she saw Endless Ocean WiiU last year? And some other games? And posted fake images of Pikmin 3 and the like?
As long as there are games coming on the Wii U eShop, I find this welcoming. The more diverse the game library(whether physical or digital), the better. ^_^
so ... not much is known about that star beast . If nintendo could get the cream of indie gaming they would be in a much better solution . They did it brilliantly with world of goo , they should have received a lot of credit for fluidity since a clone did . They missed on titles though. Without good reasons i think , the bait and switch of many wasn't founded on solid justifications . But if somehow they could get the downloadable darling such as super meat boy , that next blow game , but more importantly trials . With ubisoft it is a (slim) possibility and they might force nadeo to put a cross platform trackmania (1) on home systems , but really if they wanted to prove and to support fully the wii u , trials would be one of those titles .
Of course , most of those great indie games will end up being heavily discounted on steam sales and then given away on bundles .
what i meant is : yeah trine 2 ! real unexpected surprise , still going to buy indie games on wii u despite the guaranteed outcome
I'm amazed no one else is asking "WTF is Star Beast?!"
Because WTF is Star Beast?!
It would be if Nintendo got their online shop act together and allowed it to be more flexible if you know what I mean. It doesn't need to be steam, but allowing sales and price decreases on older software can mean everything
"Wait.. Isn't Emily Rogers the one who said she saw Endless Ocean WiiU last year? And some other games? And posted fake images of Pikmin 3 and the like?"
Yes, yes she was the one who said all that fake stuff, and more. I guess if enough time passes, then people just forget, and forgive BS like that. She also said that if the stuff she posted wasn't true, then she would never blog again, but oh look that didn't happen either. So she really is a person of her word, now isn't she. Well at least she managed to got this one right, but like someone else said. What the hell is Star Beast, and why should we care?
