That is issue number 4. I will never forget that issue, because it is the one where there was something wrong with the perfect binding, and half the pages became detached and fell out of my issue.
Between my older brother and myself, we subscribed to NP for over ten years. My first issue was 102 or 103. I think one of my favorites is one of those first few, 104. This is the one that proudly proclaims across the top of the cover, "Zelda 64: The first 100 images!" And inside are screenshots from a beta version OoT, including usable equipable medallions, a different town, and a different forest with goofy-looking octoroks. Man, that's a great one. Just recently, I went back through my old dog-eared issues to find the one about Ogre Battle 64 so I could figure out the right questions to answer to start the game with an ideal army. Sure, I could have looked at GameFAQs, but this was NP.
This is such a devastating day. I can't believe it. Yes, I even cried about it. I love Nintendo Power so much. It's been there for me as a parent since the 80s.
That Ocarina of Time cover was pretty freaking awesome. I remember that one as a kid. My friend had it, and I thought it was the greatest issue ever. That Link's Awakening cover was pretty good, too.
Anyways, I have a freaking DKC2: Diddy's Kong Quest Nintendo Power Guide. Man, the photos in that thing still give me freaking chills. That art, those graphics, those secrets... man it is so AWESOME!!!
That Metroid II and Castlevania II Nintendo Power covers were also pretty epic.
Lastly, that freaking Ninja Gaiden cover ninja looks exactly like the "Ask a Ninja" guy! XD
Back when Nintendo Power was amazing. I'm specifically referring to the late 80s and early 90s period, back when they had those awesome claymation covers for the Mario games, etc. Everything about the magazine was awesome back then, the reviews, the (FULL) game strategy guides, the comics, secrets/tricks, high score sheets, cover art, etc.
THAT was how a game magazine should be. Hell, even Game Pro and EGM were awesome and respectable during the early 90s. Somewhere along the way, they all, however, sadly slid into crap.
The magazine covers they posted were definitely MEMORABLE, but whether or not they're the "best" is highly up for debate. Though I think a few of them would definitely qualify.
My brother had that issue of Nintendo Power!
The first one we ever got. I hope I still have that laying around somewhere.
That's a great cover, kinda makes me wish for a live action TV show! Can you imagine Link with an 80's hairdo?

I love that one, too. Makes me want to play Maniac Mansion
Let's be honest everyone. Gonintendo is the new Nintendo Power.
