Although the main Zelda 25th anniversary celebrations took place last year, for those of us in the U.S., today marks the 25th anniversary of the games release. It's hard to imagine the gaming world without Zelda. Link has become a icon in the video game industry all thanks to the past 25 years. Here's to many more!

Man, wouldn't it be weird if Zelda was a girl?
I feel honored to share my birthday (day AND year) with my favorite video game series.
@L1NK
Thats pretty awesome
I guess i forgot all about it this year because nintendo made all the fuss over japans anniversary for it.
Sigh.
Where's the Metroid love?!
And people wonder why the franchise is getting abandoned!
Metroid came out on August 15, 25 years ago. NO LOVE.
From anyone!
Only excuse I can come up with is that Metroid already got a new game one year prior to its Japanese 25th anniversary (Other M, and we all know how mixed of a reception that game got), and Prime Trilogy in 2009. I'm not saying they shouldn't do at least something (the very least they could do is put out a new printing of Prime Trilogy), but at least Zelda had a brand new game that just so happened to be scheduled for the same year as it's anniversary, while Metroid got a brand new game already a year prior.
The franchise isn't "abandoned," but since Other M got a mixed reception and somewhat poor sales they're probably reconsidering what to do with the future of the series (best we can hope for is that it won't take 8 years again like after Super Metroid... and that was a well received game!).
Congratz on the 25th Anniversary Zelda... IN AMERICA!!!
Nintendo's HQ in Japan and Japanese gamers probably don't care for one, especially since they don't like Metroid Prime too much (although they liked Other M, which is beyond me). Quite frankly, I think of all the Nintendo franchises, Metroid has the highest standards, and the best "worst games. I'll take Metroid II, Prime Hunters, and Other M over games like Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Bros. 2, various Mario spin-offs, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, and Four Swords Adventures any day of the week. Plus the Metroid franchise hasn't slouched in terms of games like Zelda has.
Still, I think the biggest reason we aren't getting a Metroid Anniversary anything (and instead we are only getting a Kirby and Zelda Anniversary thing) is because there were long layoffs between times of various Metroid games (a few years short of a decade between Metroid and Super Metroid, 8 years between Super Metroid and Fusion/Prime 1), and because there are less Metroid titles. There are currently 9 original Metroid games, 1 remake (Zero Mission), and 1 spin-off (Pinball), whereas there are over a dozen original Kirby and Zelda titles.
Zelda is a girl, Link is a boy.
I'm not really much of a Zelda, but I'm still happy to see the series still around after 25 years.
Regarding Metroid 25th Anniversary complaints, I believe it had to do with not having enough resources to market both the Zelda and Metroid anniversaries at the same in the same way they marketed only the Zelda Anniversary.
Of course this is just me making a wild guess, it could have been Nintendo being lazy as well. XD
A simple compilation disc with Metroid 1, 2, Super, and Fusion would've sufficed and it wouldn't have been hard to do.
Cheers bud.
