The other day, we saw Satoru Iwata say that there's a portion of the market that wants deeper, more engaging game experiences than what you see on iOS and Android. Seems like some people are agreeing with that statement. An article over at TIME backs up Iwata's statement, saying that sometimes that richer experience is the one you want. I'm willing to bet that you guys agree!
Article here (thanks Johnny2900!)

Iwata is one of the few people who GET it.
All these crummy investors and analysts don't get it at all. That's the reason why "Nintendo is doomed" literally all the time Post-N64.
"Just make mobile games, just do this, just do that."
If Nintendo saved the industry once, they can do it again. The Mobile game industry and the video game industry are two different markets. I hate seeing these investors and analysts try to make them one and the same. When they do that it really does look like "Mobile games are dominating".
When all they did was replace online flash games.
Are we finally getting over the "Apple store is going to kill Vita/3DS" thing then? Nothing is going to kill anything. People need to stop being so aggressive with this crap.

As someone who spent time on sites like Newgrounds prior to the Angry Birds craze, I wasn't impressed by the Apple Store in the least until I started seeing games like Infinity Blade. You hit the nail on the head with the flash games comparison, only you have to pay for them now.
Very well written article and I agree with Iwata as well.
Thing is, I own an iphone, I've played several more gamer oriented games on the iphone that work very well. I've also played several more gamer oriented games on it that play horribly due to the lack of buttons and analogs.
Me personally, even some of the best of the best experiences, like Chaos Rings for instance, while good, does not hold a candle to what I've played on handheld game systems. I'd gladly pay the money for a portable device with precise controls AND a touch screen and I'd gladly pay the price for quality games that offer deeper experiences.
Furthermore, there are a lot of games available to me that are time wasters. There's a ton of free to play flash and facebook games on computer I could play but it's not going to stop me from getting retail games and games off of Steam and GOG. This also carries over to handhelds/mobile. Sure I got a smartphone but I'd still much prefer to get the deeper experiences then the quick time wasters.
