Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward is a big fan of video games. You might know that from watching Adventure Time! If you don't watch the show, Mr. Ward has opened up a Tumblr to let you know how much he's interested in games. The first post is accompanied by this drawing from Mr. Ward.

You don't normally get to see Mario with a plunger. It should happen more often.
Hope the adventure time game is good.
Man Adventure Time is going down the crapper. Instead of focusing on innocent adventures of Finn and Jake with open to interpretation depth, they are going for all these things like prophecies and cosmic beings. Plus the show used to pay attention to detail and show us new wonders and each episode ended with closure or implied closure. Now it focuses on love drama and there are parts that they never explain. I don't mind the love triangle thing, but most fans are way to obssess with it and I think the creators are paying too much attention to that. And in the episode with Mars, the ending was just stupid. Like what happen to Magic Man after they punch him? How did Finn already know of Lincoln being ultimate being? Why wasn't he in wonder of being on Mars? Well, I hope the show returns to glory of season 1-2 and most episodes of 3.
I'm pretty much done with Adventure Time since it's all Cosmic beings and Relationship Drama now. Very little actual adventure. I was tolerating it up until Rainocorn got Pregnant. I'm done with it now.
Shipping is the cancer killing storytelling.
I watch Adventure Time every week when it's new and I have no idea what the last two guys are talking about. The love triangle hardly appears, and I saw the cosmic beings show up maybe once this season? Unless there are more things considered cosmic beings. Either way, I think it's even better now than what is way seasons ago.
I never doubted Mr. Ward really enjoyed games! His show is like a game's world.
@bound_for_earthbound
Oh man are you serious? I didn't see the latest episode, but man now I want to throw up! ;-;
Imo Five Short Graybles was also a crap episode. Like breaking the fourth wall was dumb and runined the immersion. Plus Finn is human so flinging himself across the freakin continent was stupid as well. And they screwed up big time when Finn was shown flying across Ooo. Read the fifth point in errors: http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/Five_Short_Graybles
This wasn't a simple visual/animation screw-up, but a total story/logic mess up. Another one was in the spider episode when Jake thought that a totally obvious spider-web was a trampoline. Like wasn't funny, just stupid and total lack of attention to detail. I mean Jake's pants are made of spider webs for crying out loud!
Plus they didn't show any of the different towns and inhabitants in a long time. And the show isn't too funny except for certain extreme cases. Like it used to be full of great and memorable dialog, but now...
@YF3
The comisc being thing used to be only small hints like the Cosmic Owl, but in that single episode they went too far. I remember some other show quite a few years ago, I think it was Ghost Whisper or something and in newspaper I read it got cancelled because instead of focusing on girl who helped Ghosts, they started going for stuff like devils and angels and general Christian supernatural myths. I didn't care that time because the show was not one I watched, but now I can relate.
The love triangle doesn't appear often, but in the last few episodes they focused more on it than entire show combined and even more.
@MegaShock1000
That's because those were episodes based on the triangle. It's a story arc and shows are allowed to have them. I personally thought that they were good episodes. I like how Adventure Time does the arcs.
I still don't understand the cosmic being thing though, honestly. I haven't noticed. I guess it is still subtle to me.
You should get Mr. Ward to draw you, RMC! Also, the both of you have awesome beards.
Because he is on the penny, which is the most common surviving relic from the past, thus he is the most important person from the past. Also, Finn went to Mars before. And the past.
Seriously, are the guys above really watching the same show that I am? It's a surrealist cartoon styled after an RPG/adventure game, and it's at it's best when it is at it's most surreal like the recent dream episode.
Regarding the series itself; Adventure Time has always been a hit and miss show. Sometimes it's great (the film noir episode with BMO), sometimes it's awful (that spider couple one), there's never really been an in between.
And while I agree that, recently, they're pandering to the shipping crowd and that in itself is pretty obnoxious, but it's not like it's been dominating the series or anything. This season there's been...what...4 or so episodes that focus on relationships? Otherwise, the overall quality of AT is still as inconsistent as ever.
As for the blog, it's kind of cool that we've got to a point now where people working in the cartoon industry were gamers as kids, or still are.
I don't like Pen's art style all that much though, so I personally wouldn't follow it for his takes on characters or anything like that. Maybe interviews and stuff will be cool, but that remains to be seen.
I completely disagree. They focus on their adventure plenty. The most recent episodes had Finn captured by Ricardio and fighting off the Worm King from killing him in his sleep.
And what prophecies? lol Oh no the Lich who is super cool is coming back and stole the Enchirideon so that Finn won't know what to do, and cosmic beings??? There's the Owl and Abe Lincoln and if you knew anything about AT you'd know that Abe Lincoln being on Mars was some of the greatest fan service ever. Just look up the AT pilot on youtube. And the love triangle thing doesn't even exit. Finn liked PB, but she's too old so they introduced FP. They had one episode where they tricked you into thinking PB actually liked Finn which she doesn't, cause she's 5 years older than him... The show I think has been very consistent in it's quality and is by far the best cartoon on television today.
Thank you! The shows amazing and people complaining I think are taking it way too seriously.
@YF3
"That's because those were episodes based on the triangle. It's a story arc and shows are allowed to have them."
You don't say! Do you want a rock Mr. Captain Obvious?
And no, Adventure Time doesn't have arcs, not the same way other shows have them. Two or three episodes that are related do not count as arcs. AT "arcs" imply or give hints in various episodes and than continues things in another episodes that might be direct continuation or after a couple of other episodes. By your logic, AT has like three dozen story arcs that consist of two-three episodes each. Does not make sense.
"I still don't understand the cosmic being thing though, honestly. I haven't noticed. I guess it is still subtle to me."
There's nothing subtle about it when the cosmic being is one of the main characters of an entire episode.
@ChozoBoy
"Because he is on the penny, which is the most common surviving relic from the past, thus he is the most important person from the past."
I didn't ask how does Finn know who Lincoln is. I asked how does he know that Lincoln is ultimate super being.
"Also, Finn went to Mars before. And the past."
Does the pilot even count as cannon? In there his name was Pen and Rainicorn didn't speak in Korean. And so what. He was only transported for a split second and there he was like what is this I don't even. Lincoln basically just gave him some encouragement words and that's it, he was brought back to present.
"It's a surrealist cartoon styled after an RPG/adventure game, and it's at it's best when it is at it's most surreal like the recent dream episode."
Wrong. This is the ultimate misunderstanding that most people have. AT is NOT surreal or random or some acid trip or lsd-induced show. It's pretty complicate what I mean and not easy to explain or understand. I will compare to Mario.
Mario is not trully random like most people claim. The world and universe in Mario are fantasy but still follow certain rules and regulations. People only think its random cause instead of the usual dragons and fairy and potions fantasy world, Mario has koopas and mushrooms and stars. Is not random, but unique. In a sense it can be surreal, but it's not truly and not intended to be. Like it CAN be from a certain view, but it wasn't intended to be like an acid trip, just a very unique fantasy setting. Even SMB2 USA is in dream, but it's not random. Galaxy environments can be chaotic and weird, but it represent of space and universe and how everything is chaos. And they're not really that random either.
Same thing for AT. Is a very unique fantasy setting and there are super-weird moments, but those are exceptions. Like maybe they were in another dimension (ex. spirit world) or something.
I think you will not understand what I mean, buttThere is actually a book abut what I mean. I don't remember the author, but he basically talks about in more detail what I am getting it.
If you want a really surreal show, watch Regular Show. That one doesn't make any sense and it never wanted to.
@lotso shoes
I disagree. I kinda liked the Spider episode beyond the trampoline/spider web mess up. In the first two season and vast majority of season 3 most of the episodes ranged from good to awesome.
"This season there's been...what...4 or so episodes that focus on relationships?"
And as I say, they focus way too much in those 4 episodes, more than entire show combined and more.
@RAWR
"lol Oh no the Lich who is super cool is coming back and stole the Enchirideon so that Finn won't know what to do"
What are you on about? I never even mentioned the Lich and if I did it would be about how I like him and how Finn defeating him was a GOOD example of building relationships in AT. It was subtle and innocent. Not like Bubblegum make out with Finn and give him love so all the tumblr hipsters will be wetting their pants!!!
The Lich episdoes were how the prophecy/hero thing done right. Like it was even more innocent and regular than Zelda. Finn just had to be a hero and destroy the evil. There were no gods or cosmic beings or prophecies or whatever involved.
If you're still confused, watch the Sons of Mars episodes and then read the wiki entry before questioning my knowledge of AT.
"Abe Lincoln and if you knew anything about AT you'd know that Abe Lincoln being on Mars was some of the greatest fan service ever."
Your idea of fan service must be like having Goomba and Koopa be catchable pokemon in the next game. Or making Samus a Zelda boss or something retarded like that lol.
No real good fan service for AT would be like having Jake doing that floating meditation thing again or showing more of Finn's combat skills or showing the old man and the ninjas that were stealing his diamonds. Or maybe showing Iceclops or one of the many villages and inhabitants or locations of Ooo they showed in the first two season and mostly forgot about.
"And the love triangle thing doesn't even exit."
Yeah tell that to the majority of AT fans lol. That's ALL that exists for those fools.
"The shows amazing and people complaining I think are taking it way too seriously."
No, I am just a fan and would like that the thing I am fan of remains with quality so that I can stay a fan of it. I'm not some braindead sycophant who swallows whatever crap creators will crap out. I am a fan, not a fanboy. And I take things seriously because I am human being and I feel that since I have a brain I should use it to explains my feelings and thoughts instead of just being braindead and saying it sucks or it's awesome without really understanding why I said those things.
"the best cartoon on television today."
Well it was and still is, but soon I think it will be nothing more than hipster crap trying to be 2deep4u and "epic". I hope that is not the case because I love the show and support it by buying the DVD and comics.
I can right volumes on why I am dissatisfied with AT season 4 and parts of season 3 and why I'm worried about the series direction.
