GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How much does console color matter to you?

ENDOFDAYTHOUGHTS 01

Is it really Wednesday already?! This week is flying by! I guess that Labor Day start to the week really set the tone for the rest of the week. Let's hope Friday night gets here even quicker. We all need some R and R! See you in a few, short hours.

When you look back on Nintendo's previous hardware, you start to see a very colorful rainbow. The Big N loves to re-release their hardware in all sorts of colors. As soon as one round of colors comes out, the next color ends up getting announced for Japan. While the color whirlwind doesn't hit as hard on consoles as it does portables, Nintendo still makes sure to offer up a variety of colors no matter what platform you're playing.

I do enjoy seeing new colors released for Nintendo's hardware. It's always nice finding out about the latest paint scheme that is going to head our way. Obviously, Nintendo loves doing these paint jobs because they know that the right color can turn an uninterested consumer into a new console/portable owner.

I've never been one to purchase a game console/portable just because of its color. If there are choices at launch, I pick whichever one I enjoy the most. If that color scheme wasn't available when I went to purchase, I would get whatever other one was in stock. I'm really not a stickler for the colors. I am much more interested in getting a platform to play software!

That's why I don't really mind if the black Wii U launches alongside the white. It sure seems like a done deal, though. I'd be very surprised if black and white options weren't available on day one. I'm sure many of you guys and gals have already lined up on your side of the fence, ready to defend your color choice as the real show-stopper when it comes to looks.

How much does console color matter to you? Do you rush out to buy the latest portable when it becomes available in your favorite color? Do you not even think twice about color? Leave us a comment and fill us in!

It does matter to me. But it wouldn't stop me getting one on launch day. I wanted a Black Wii but got one at launch. Really looking good for the Black Wii U at launch.

I'm fine with any color they launch with. But you can bet your a** that I'd buy an orange Wii U day 1 if they ever decided to make one

I want it in black ... mostly because I have a black WM+ controller set-up that I have never used since it clashed with my white Wii.

Otherwise, I don't care too much about console color.

The novelty of system color wears off after a few weeks. In the end, color means nothing. All your time spent using the console is looking at the content on the screen, not the color of the system.

It didn't use to matter much to me, but all that changed with the Wii.

My Wii is filled with scratch marks and dirtiness.
My wiimotes look filty from all the use, and two of them have turned to a dirty/pearly color on the bottom part for some reason.
The wiimote straps get dirty real fast also.
My classic controllers have managed to stay sort of clean, except for the rubber analog sticks which look like shovel and the D-pad too.
The analog stick on the nunchucks looks dirty too.

I hope the black WiiU will be available at launch cause I'm not getting a white console again.

I will be going with white. I like the iconic look of the main color that was advertised the most. Black N64, Purple Gamecube, White GBA, silver GBP, SP, Micro, Blue 3DS, Grey PS, Black PS2, Black Genesis, Purple GBC etc.

If there's only one console color, then I'll buy the console. But if there are many colors or the possibility of more colors, then I always buy Black. I waited for a black Gamecube and Wii before buying them.

I'll be annoyed if WiiU launches in just Black. I hate black electronics, it's been done to death and they leave fingerprints and smudges like crazy. I really want a White WiiU system and GamePad. White is much cleaner and more futuristic and sleek.

I prefer multiple colors, just because I always have loved having a bagillion options (for just about everything).

Personally, I loved the platinum/silver GameCube I have. I would love a similarly colored WiiU, or even a gold or a bronze WiiU. That or something similar to my Xbox 360 Halo 3 dark green (which I have despite not owning a single Halo game). XD

jesse himself wrote:so by that rational they could release the wiiu in 'manure brown' and you would still buy it? for something i'm going to look at for the next 6 years or so, colour does matter.

I'll take a brown Wii U please. Slap wood grain on the side of that bad boy and it would be perfect. No, I'm not kidding.

What country do you live in? If NA, you waited 5 years to buy a Wii just so you could get it in black?

Indeed. I prefer all my gadgets/electronics to be white if possible. But I will get black if it's the only option.

Hey JASONMAIVIA I had the panasonic q gamecube too ;-D

As far as console colors or handhelds it really doesn't matter to me very much, however if you do get a style or color that you love it doubles the pleasure of owning that equipment...

For me a great example is the new 3ds-XL, when it was announced i really wanted the silver version but i found out that i could only get the red or blue version instead, i was half disappointed but that wasn't going to stop me from getting the XL!!! but in a surprising change of events i picked up the blue one and love it, in fact i think that i would perfer the blue one then silver if i had the chance the pick between the two!

I never realize how great the blue was by the looks of the pictures that showed the XL, til it was in my hands i then said WOW!!!!!

I usually like my console to be a neutral color since it sits on my entertainment center with other devices. White or black would be fine with me. It's in my living room so I don't want it to look gawdy with the rest of the room.

As far as handhelds go, I used to feel the same way, but mainly because it's important to me that the inner face color (around the screen) is neutral. Since the 3DS XL has black insides the outside can be any color and I don't care. I went with red as a matter of fact.

I like color variations but unlike handhelds, on consoles, they don't mean anywhere near as much to me.

This. I'm not much of a stickler on color. I usually just go with the color the console/handheld is advertised the most. Thus, white WiiU for me.

I have a white Wii (bought back in 2007!) and i want a black Wii U to have some difference between the consoles xD

So yeah, the color matters to me right now!

For all I care the console can be purple with pink hearts on it! The games are the important part. The black Wii U does look better in black, but I look at the games, not the consoles... But that nice blue light I would love to keep! :)

what coffee said, I will be getting a black console because video will pop better contrast-wise

The only color I would wait for or buy a new console/handheld is: "translucent". I love this. Sadly, this is a trend that died with the 90's. :(
I love to see what's inside my electronics! I have the Glacier GBA, and my favorite N64 controller is a translucent blue-green. Also, my second favorite Game Cube controller (just after my wavebird) is a blue one with a translucent back. :P

I'd love a chrome/silver Wii U but I will be getting a black system. If there are bundles Ill get the one with a pro controller.

I'm bored of Black & White consoles to be honest.

I don't usually care, since it's irrelevant (cared more as a kid, but that was when I *did* want Black), but I am sick of Black consoles and White consoles.

Not to mention White gets dirty looking and marks show, Black gets finger prints all over it and shows dust.

Meh.

Handhelds, color is everything to me, since I am looking at it while playing and people see me holding it.

Personally, I want everything to be Green or Orange, but Nintendo hates me and never releases those colors until well into the handhelds' lives.

It doesn't matter to me at launch. If there's only purple available, I'll get it regardless of it looks. But I buy a console later on and the company announces that a super smexy new color is coming out in a couple of weeks, I'll wait. Did that with the 3DS, when I wanted to get one last fall, but then I waited for the red version to be available and got that. Don't regret waiting.

I'll probably get the black model of the Wii U this fall. I had the white Wii for years and want a change now. Also, the black Wii U Gamepad looks really slick.

Since I know there won't be other colors for a long time, I'll just get a black Wii U. It'll blend with my boring black PS3 and 360.

I never understood the appeal of black, white, and grey. If you like boring, I guess they're good.

I remember how Apple started the whole color craze with their iMac in the 90's. Nintendo followed suit with their translucent colored N64s. Apple also ended the color craze when they started the glossy white/black stuff. Nintendo, again, did the same thing.

Favorite color ever is orange and blue. I had the orange N64 and wanted the orange GameCube, but it never came here. I've had a few blue handhelds (since Nintendo never has a blue home console, save for the Wii revision). I had a blue GBA SP, original DS, and 3DS.
