Increases the console's chances for success. Also, it'll mean I'll be able have three games at launch instead of just two.
Its very simple actually: Its a minigame compilation with no online or single player modes (for some minigames).
Depending on the price, it may be hard to justify a purchase when other games of similar or just a tad pricier can offer longer and deeper gaming experiences.
Fairly simple reason this needs to be packed-in... It would be too much asking full price for it.
If there's a chance to get it for say $30 I would consider getting it.. But if I have to pay $300 for a stand alone WiiU, then there's no way in paying an extra $60 for a minigame compilation.
Yeah, despite the fact that it has more depth than most minigame collections, if it isn't a 900 hour, action adventure game where you swing swords and shovel, it isn't worth full price.
@DonnyKD
It should have more depth than most minigame compilations.. It's a WiiU game.
Hum it with me!!!
DOOH DOOH DOOH DOOH! DOOOOOHH DOOOOHHH DOOOOHHH DOOOHHH DOOOHH DOOOHHH DOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
DOODOODOODOODOODO!!!
(it's the Balloon Fight theme)
Nintendo Land is starting to look like a game worthy of a full retail price, but I'm not sure if its at that level yet. while there are nice little details, it hardly increases the depth of the overall game. there's still some games yet to be revealed so maybe it will be worth retail price.
still, like what bitblock said, it would be a perfect pack in game because it would be a great introduction to what the wii u is all about.
as i said before , coop battle mii put it over the must buy line for sure . Smooth splitscreen pointer horde action , i know it's going to be a hit within my friends . I'm hoping they have more maps but there's not a lot of chance to that . Well we made it worked with conduit 2 , even though those maps might be smaller (hum not really i think due to the space ship). Five maps would be the magical numbers , that would make me wait for the opening of the store
as for ballon fight , i don't understand it , i can only use lost winds or kirby as a reference so i'll wait so see it , but at least it's quite original.
it's worthy of the full price , why ? because it's the only shooter with wiimote pointer aiming ! hey that's true !
i would prefer a packin that way i could justify buying nsmbu also and maybe another game on top of that . Right now it's nintendo land first , nsmb u second .... seconds apart and the knowledge that nsmb u is going to be bought by at least three of my friends
The reason I hope it's a pack-in is because there seem to be lots of people who still don't really understand how the GamePad can create unique gameplay. If everyone gets this game with the system, it'll spead a lot of awareness towards the potential of the system.
Called the Ballon fight game and it's rules ages ago.
Any news of any sort of online play options? No? Maybe Nintendo is saving that feature for their next console. The game needs to be a packin. I don't see myself buying this separately for much.
Same here.
BTW, it would be nice if this game allowed for new minigames to be added via DLC (Star Fox!) at a later date.
that's exactly right. for seasoned gamers like ourselves, well, we were always going to buy the consonle. but for the average consumer, its really important.
Man, I'm excited. Still hope it's a pack-in though.
@DonnyKD
A minigame compilation is still a minigame compilation. I doubt it will have enough to warrant a $50-60 purchase, even if it is a lot of fun.
Nintendo wants this game to be THE game to show off how to experience the Wii U and be the next Wii Sports. The main reason Wii did so well for a while was because it came with it. If Wii U doesn't come with Nintendo Land, how are people going to experience how it should be played? It will NEVER be the next Wii Sports if it doesn't come packed in.
Most people spending $300 or so are not going to be picking up that many games at launch. Especially if they are $50-60. That's another $100-120 if they were to get 2 games. If Mario is out, they're going to just buy Mario. They're not going to get Nintendo Land over Mario at the same price.
It's not like being a pack-in is a bad thing. Mario games have been pack-ins all the time way back when.
@Hisiru
Because it would probably not do as well at $50-60, and being a pack-in would definitely sweeten the deal for a lot of people and make the Wii U more desirable as a day one purchase.
Can't wait to fancy up the main park even more!
People act like it needs to be a pack-in for casual consumers, but the reasons I'm hearing it needs to be a pack-in is more like it's needed to be forced on core gamers or else they won't think it's worth buying.
Obviously people have their preconceived notions of if a minigame collections would ever be worth full retail price to them, but there have be many mini game collections that have sold well at retail prices (Mario Party, etc.) regardless of how core gamers feel about it. It would be valid to say it needs to be packed in for core gamers to have it as well as inexperienced gamers, if Nintendo's intent was to have as many people familiar with the possibilities of the system as possible, which would sell the system even more through word of mouth (like the Wii) but just thinking this is only a game for beginners and a game that beginners wouldn't want to buy unless it was forced on them, is making assumptions who this game is made for, what games sell, and reasons why there need to be a pack-in that I just don't agree with.
Wii Sports sold well in Japan despite not being bundled and Wii Sports Resort has sold over 30 million copies world wide.
It would be good to pack-in the game in the way that it puts the game in that many more homes, and maybe they could do cool things with the game like DLC for more attractions, more stuff to unlock with coins, and online play to really make it an amusement park/game that you want to keep returning to that many people will continue playing which could help sell systems.
I don't think it NEEDS to be packed in to sell and if it means they could be more flexible with the price and possible control bundles/options, it might be better to let people pick up what they want and price Nintendoland for value.
I think if it is a pack-in, the better option might be a preinstalled copy of the game rather than a physical game or the option to download it from the Wii U eshop. Give people that introduction and incentive to use the eshop right out the box and you can open the door for more purchases later on. Plus if it's installed, it's right there to play at any time. If they were adding more content or gave reasons to keep playing it, it could be a really big game for Nintendo and the system. Add to that Miiverse functionality and it could potentially not just be a minigame collection but a hub for people to just hang out and have fun with others. Who knows if that is what they are going to plan on doing, but the possibilities are exciting.
In other words, it's just a bunch of iphone games.
The only thing I find interesting is the theme park aspect of it.
It honestly sounds really cool. I just hope it's a pack-in for the US, so I don't have to buy the game separately, considering I'm already going to be getting at LEAST Pikmin and Mario at launch.
@cbbomb
You couldn't be further off...
Nintendoland would be so cool if they included online multiplayer. It doesn't have to, but it will help reiterate Nintendo new online strategy. If not, then that take away the opportunity for people be aware online functionality of a Nintendo console.
Might as well call it Mario Party 10...
Didn't they mention that it was going to be fully integrated into the Miiverse and all that?
Is it really that far-fetched to you that someone might not find $60 worth of value in a mini-game collection slash Wii U proof of concept, regardless of its depth?
wait hold up my post isn't smug enough yet
there we go
Yep. From the Roundtable last year onwards [with some more nuggets yesterday].
