GRAPEVINE, TEXAS — GameStop (NYSE: GME), the world’s largest multichannel retailer of video games, announced today that it has created a Nintendo Wii U wait list exclusively for members of its PowerUp Rewards loyalty program. Due to overwhelming demand, the retailer recently stopped taking pre-orders on the Wii U Deluxe Set and Basic Set. The new wait list program allows PowerUp Rewards members to sign up to be notified when additional quantities of the Wii U become available for purchase after the Nov. 18 launch.
“Demand for Wii U has been off the charts and we know many of our PowerUp Rewards members are anxious to get their hands on one,” said GameStop president Tony Bartel. “We’re happy to offer our customers this exclusive opportunity to join the wait list for this must-have item.”
PowerUp Rewards members can visit any U.S. GameStop store to join the Wii U wait list (limit two per household). Once on the list, customers will be notified when a Wii U is available for purchase and will have 48 hours to respond. There is no deposit required to join the wait list and enrolling does not guarantee a Wii U on or by a specified date or at a specific price.
For complete details, visit your local GameStop store or www.GameStop.com/WiiUWaitList. For more information on how to become a PowerUp Rewards member, the benefits of joining and more, visit www.PowerUpRewards.com.

Again, great for Nintendo, but i want one at launch too
So much for getting one on launch... :/
I wish we could see some numbers...
So freaking awesome to hear it's selling great. I pre-ordered my Deluxe last Sunday from Best Buy for $5 down. Can't wait to get it!
Well good thing that i am waiting then. I just got married last saturday and i am on my honeymoon now. So the Wii U will have to wait to be added to my collection.
I'm planning on getting one in February, hopefully that's possible.
P.S. They are sold out at Best Buy now too.
I still think that Nintendo is somehow manipulating the stock of preorders a bit to cause a higher demand for the Wii U. It makes sense if you think about it but I just hope that I will be able to get my Wii U around launch
This sounds good and unlike the wii I have one preordered.
I don't think so. If they were "holding back," then they could have let it run for at least a few more days, if not weeks. The deluxe version was gone within 1-3 days, depending on location.
I'm on the wait list at Gamestop, but still hunting for a Deluxe. I seriously hate that I might have to wait till after launch...
@bszelda
This whole situation is admittedly a bit weird. It didn't seem like there was that much buzz for the Wii U, but then BAM, Wii U preorders are gone left and right.
I got a call from my Gamestop today saying I'm on the waiting list. 32 GB Wii U for me!
@WolfLink22 Congrats! I wish you a happy marriage!
I'm surprised it took this long for Gamestop to sell out of preorders Wii U. They sold out of Wii preorders before the store even opened on the day they started taking preorders for it. They had to turn people away because they didn't have enough for how many people were in line when I preordered it six years ago. There were even people who tried to bribe me for my place in line.
Yeah i learned my lesson from the Wii launch too. I had to camp out overnight for eight hours, got drunk, went to work with no sleep, had to sit at a table with the general manager of my company, and two other managers for the company "christmas luncheon" drunk off my ass. This will not happen with WiiU.......preordered this biyatch!!
But, but Nintendo is DOOOMED.
I don't understand. Why are people wanting to buy a system that is isn't going to sell? Oh wait, maybe the Nintendo bashers need to stick a fork in it.
Looks like I'll be lining up at Target or Wal-Mart! That is.. if I decide to get one.
I love how gamers, and mass market consumers just keep proving the people in the gaming media wrong. There's always so much doubt, and negativity by them towards any new Nintendo system. But at the end of the day it's the consumers who decides what they buy, not the so called "gaming journalists."
[troll]I don't get it. Nobody wants that kiddie system.[/troll]
Already got my Deluxe pre-ordered so I'm not stressing it.
Totally true. This "sold out" business is nothing to be proud of if Nintendo can only produce, say a million systems. Well, we'll see what happens. It's not like it matters to us personally. ^_^;
@WolfLink22
Aw, congrats man.
Luckily I put 100 bucks on the deluxe edition already.
I don't NEED one at launch, but I would like to get one a little bit after when I have the money. Don't make availability too tight, Nintendo.
preorders were done completely differently back when the wii came out. gamestops, for example, only got a handle of systems each (i.e. 10 per store), and store employees got first dibs on wii preorders before the stores even opened to the public. this time around, gamestop is getting 70% of all the wii u's being made for launch, with the remaining 30% being spread between the other retailers (target, walmart, best buy, etc.). if the entirety of gamestop sold out of deluxe wii u's within a day of preorders opening, that is telling of the demand for the system.
One of the perks of living in NYC is that the Nintendo World Store was guaranteeing pre-orders of the deluxe edition up until last Friday. Not sure if they are still taking them, but if you live nearby, you should give them a call then race over there.
