Wii U-branded Wiimote Plus controllers now available

These were spotted at Walmart, which most likely means other retailers will be getting them this week. Time to stock up, my friends!

I was just at Wal Mart. Didn't see anything but the advert. That's okay though. I already have two Remote Plus's and two regular Remotes with the Motion Plus attachments. I think I'll be okay.

So they are still $40? Wouldn't mind seeing a price drop for the controllers without motion-plus.

I already have more of these than I need, and yet I still want a red one.

I see a red one, going to Wal Mart right now to hopefully snag one up. Was going to order one on Play Asia right before launch but now we have it in the states!

Just an FYI to everyone, only the packaging is Wii U branded.

@The_King_Up_North

It's not even about that, it's the fact that the red wii remote plus hasn't been available in America and now it is.

@CrispyGoomba
Doubt that'll ever happen. Wii Motion Plus tech is far cheaper than what it used to be. Original Wii motes used to cost $40. So, having a better controller for the same price is good. I only have one Wii motion plus, but my brother also has one. In total, I think there are 5 or 6 wii remotes with us lol

Weird that they bothered to update the packaging. Wouldn't it have been easier to slap stickers on saying, "Wii U compatible?" The name of the product and the product itself aren't changing at all! (They do not say Wii U on them.) Besides, if you go to stores now, you'll still find scads of regular Wii Remote Pluses on shelves. Are they going to bother recalling all of those just to repackage them? No? Then the customer or clerk can figure it out.

Are you sure it's red and not the usual pink? Their graphic shows pink (and also doesn't show any black nunchuks).

For the record, red Wii Remote Pluses were available in the US with a red jacket and red nunchuk in the 2010 NSMB + Wii Sports Wii bundle.

On the other hand, red is a standard color in Japan and they also have (had?) two-packs (but apparently not with red) for ~$75. (With the current exchange rate, a single Wii Remote Plus costs ~$50.)

@megarockexe Of course.

It's perfectly fine for smartphone and tech brands to come out annually trumpeting 'must have' features, but none of them have taken a step towards bettering batteries at their base [which would solve the continued battery life problem they all face].

They can't keep pushing it under the carpet forever...

True, no one seems to like to work on anything other than processors. I mean, look at how slowly monitor resolutions have crept up over the last ten years! Hardly any change!

However, for rechargeable batteries, these are the best you can do right now:

http://us.sanyo.com/eneloop

"eneloop batteries can be recharged up to 1,500 times, which means that the purchase and use of a single eneloop cell can keep many hundreds of batteries from entering landfills!"

"eneloop batteries can save you hundreds of dollars on battery purchases. Over their lifetime, each eneloop costs less than 4ยข per recharge."

"Fully charged cells maintain up to 75% of their charge after three years of storage."

Four batteries cost about $10. A four-battery charger also costs about $10.

This is also on Sanyo's eneloop site:

http://us.sanyo.com/Wii-Remote-Charging-System

:}

But for anyone using regular alkalines, go hit yourself over the head with a sock full of discharged cells for wasting money and resources. Go ahead. I'll wait.

But actually, nothing will "solve" the continued battery life problem since we're constantly demanding our portable devices to do more, and at higher speeds.

What I want to know is Nintendo going to re-release the nunchucks to have the updated clickable analog sticks with full 360 degree turning radius like the Wii U ones? Or will they still be unclickable with the 8 way movement?

They aren't making new wiimotes, just new packaging, so no, there wont be any redesigned nunchuks.
