A portion of a Joystiq review...
In whatever version you want, on whatever platform you have, you should absolutely play Cave Story. I've played through it countless times and I still love it.

You guys need to play this. It's really good
Didn't this come out forever ago?
I went ahead and bought it on Steam but I haven't made time to play it yet
@BlueRangerVegeta Cave story+? If you wanted to try it out on the PC, it is free (the regular version)
Ok so it's looking like this version of the game includes the additional content from the PC release. Or at least that's the impression I got from Joystiq. Hopefully this is the case.
Damn. They know I'll buy it again and again and again...
... and again and again and again and again...
I know they called this Cave Story+ in Nintendo Power. But now, it's just called Cave Story.. I have the DSiware version and the Steam version...
I'm definitely going to get this. I've only played through the original once, and I'm looking forward to playing it again, plus extra content! xD
I love Cave Story. First PC game I ever played. I don't think I will buy the eshop version soon. There are other games I need to get first.
If I can't update my DSiWare version to be this version, then this is useless and Nicalis is a bunch of asses for even doing this and it renders the retail game idiotic in the first place.
Aw, they really should have given it the Cave Story+ visuals and music.
When it was originally announced, I'm pretty sure they said an update was coming. If this "Update" can't be applied to the DSiWare edition, then that sucks.
Btw, the 3D version has 3D models so how does it make the retail edition obsolete?
@Autosaver
Because 3D models add nothing to the actual game. It's just to make the game look better, and most people prefer the original graphics anyway.
The eShop version is definitive, featuring features from pretty much all the other versions of the game in one nice package. Cave Story 3D offers *nothing* except a dungeon, a Prinny and the 3D models, which, as I mentioned, are irrelevant, since it isn't content. There's no reason to buy that unless you can't stand 2D sprites and would rather have a gimped version just to not see sprites.
