Coming from Michel Ancel...
“To be honest, we were on Wii U very early – even for Origins.
… We did not know exactly when Nintendo would release the system, but we started making Origins for Wii U. [At that point], we thought Wii U would come out a lot earlier. We worked very closely with Nintendo [on Wii U] early on, giving them feedback on the various prototypes.
When we finished Origins, it was time to start thinking about Wii U again, because [the hardware] was nearly complete. So to answer your question, we wanted to make a Rayman game and started to explore how we could make it interesting using Wii U.”
Well, isn't that a telling bit of information. You have to wonder if Nintendo did have plans to launch Wii U earlier, but decided to take things in a different direction.

It might have been wise to launch it earlier, but probably because of 3ds problems they focused on their dying platform to keep it from becoming irrelevant. Just a guess though
I wonder how much of Origins is finished on Wii U, could be worth it to release it as a download at least
@cool_boy_mew I definitely hope so. I'm holding off on buying the game on the chance it will come out on Wii U. I'd buy it day 1 if it were on eShop.
I'd guess this was a plan to secure the kind of launch the Wii U is seeing. Good software, not just the promise of such at a later date.
Smart of Nintendo, I'd say.
This actually explains a lot. Either way, I can't wait for Rayman Legends!
