'No current plans' to bring Call of Duty Elite service to Call of Duty: Black Ops II Wii U

I'm starting to get a little nervous about the online features of the Wii U. I was very optimistic for awhile there, hearing great things from a number of devs. In recent days, we've been hearing talk about how certain online elements from multiplatform games aren't going to be on Wii U, or will be available in different methods.

Looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops II is the latest to follow that trend. According to Nevin Dravinski, producer on the game, there's no current plan to bring the Call of Duty Elite service to Wii U. Maybe the next time around? Thanks to Jbob for the heads up!

I sure hope so. I'm still baffled that 3DS doesn't support voice chat for online games. I played quite a bit of Raid Mode in Resident Evil Revelations this last weekend. It was a ton of fun but the experience was hampered by the fact that I couldn't communicate with the friend I was playing with. Nintendo had the DS and Wii to learn from and they didn't.

I couldnt agree more.

I don't think this decision isn't because they couldn't. I have a feeling that its that they don't want to use the resources for it this early on but not really know how the install base is going to look.

It's not that the 3DS doesn't support it, it's that most developers haven't implemented it. Heroes of Ruin has voice chat.

Was voice chat available from day one on the 3DS? I thought it was only added later via a patch?

Heroes of Ruin also integrates its online with the website and tracks stats but obviously Nintendo would never let that happen because they're cheap and evul and they just don't get it, when will this F***ing company learn!?

Also Zombi U has Uplay integration so we already know Wii U games can have integration with external services.

Lol at people saying Nintendo's worried about Sony and MS copying them. Um, they announced Miiverse at E3, if they wanted to copy them, they would have already, and their next console's not out till next year so that's plenty of time right there. Not mention that, under 6 weeks left to go, it's far too late for Sony or MS to create anything resembling Miiverse.

But it's the fact that how many people have pre-ordered the other versions of this game? That's a customer lost. How many customers has Nintendo lost because people don't trust them? What's wrong with giving people some confidence that if they purchase the Wii U version of this game they'll get good online? Nintendo's just harming third parties again and looking out for itself. Unless of course, there's something wrong with the online that they know we'll hate so they are waiting for lots of people to pre-order and hopefully as little of them cancels as possible. But I'll honest, luckily for me, the console comes out 2 weeks later than US, so if I see it doesn't live up to their promises, I'm cancelling.

Obviously it is the one game that mattered, all the other games with full online parity went unnoticed.

Which one are those exactly? We don't even know how they work...You do realise the COD happens to be the number one online game right? And it's the only one they got. No one buys AC3 for online.

I'm not quite sure if everyone got that "no CoD Elite" does NOT mean "no online play"

Well, I was thinking the Wii U should release before Black Ops II, so Nintendo could show how serious it was about online gaming...it was one of the reasons I thought early release dates made some sense.
BUT, being that the Wii U is releasing after Black Ops II, the hardcore players of Black Ops II will most likely be buying the game at midnight on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360...

That being said though, Nintendo COULD help Black Ops II sell on their system by answering/showing the online services for the Wii U to be fully ready to go at launch. Voice chat. Video chat. Leaderboards. Accomplishments. Day one. None of this, "We're going to try and re-invent voice chat, and release a $30 peripheral in 2 years like we did with Wii Speak...it's going to be AWESOME!"

Again, the longer they wait on the online details with games like Black Ops II, yes, the more likely you are going to see some players go to the other consoles, and/or just buy the other consoles (if they haven't already) and get Black Ops II when it releases on them on November 13th.

Now, I will say that Treyarch is the one that said they aren't bringing it the Wii U "yet", and will look at doing so though...again, this is where Nintendo steps up to the plate and says, "We're sending guys your way to help you with it."

Perhaps when they reveal their online services with the Wii U, it will put all to rest...especially if they confirm NSMBU has it...

Not a huge deal breaker. New console and all. However, I fully expect the next Call of Duty after Black Ops II on the Wii U to have it along with any other new features in the next installments on other platforms.

Who knows, they might add it on as a an update on the Wii U later on. Either way, looking forward to it still on the Wii U :)

The usual stuff, the Nintendo version had to be a gimped one in some way.

@LegendofLex This.

Just another case of 'wait and see' [that wouldn't happen on a CoD that launched with PS4/X-Box 8] here guys.

As long as it has the full blown Zombies modes then I'm in. The most I ever played of BLOPS on Wii was the zombies mode, and that one was gimped!

if nintendo are gonna be so hesitant to explain how the Wii U's online works because they know they know everyone hates silly restrictions but they've decided to go on and do it anyway because they're stubborn like that then I'm gonna hesitant to fork my hard earned cash out for the console at all.

You could use voice chat on the 3DS when it launched for DS games that used it (such as Pokémon), it's just that voice chat was never implemented in a 3DS game until Heroes of Ruin. There was no need for a patch because the functionality had always been there.

A Nintendo rep said that availability of voice chat will vary from game to game, so it looks like cross-game chat won't be an option.

I doubt its' hesitation. It's more likely about marketing.

Nintendo needs to start putting out online details, like yesterday. Friend codes and I bail out.

Hmm, I wonder if it's because those are brand names that can sell bucketloads of CoD even with a userbase a third the size of the winning competition.

GUYS THIS NEWS ATM ARE PROBABLY FAKE, there is no other site in the entire internet who said the same thing or confirmed it, and these statements in the article are probably a missunderstanding of the author on the other news "nintendo is working with activicion" published a DAY BEFORE about the dlc plan for BO 2

i cant understand why people can believe instantly this kind of things told by only 1unknown blog

i didnt see it ANYWHERE more than on that blog anyone confirming yet "Elite" is not coming to wii u, can u link me more sources?

I highly doubt people are going to jump to Wii U. Anyone set in their ways aren't going to "switch" over now because of Elite. If people are into COD so much that they even care about Elite, they would have gotten another system a LONG time ago. Would it have been nice if Elite was available on Wii U? Yes. But Activision is a company too ( a rather greedy one at that,) I don't expect them to throw money into what is sure to be the least supported console for COD.

That being said, while Nintendo definitely has a lot to prove when it comes to their online plans, I will wait to see how it works before I freak out.

@cbbomb

Actually Halo and CoD are tied on 360 for the most online activity (though this is only in US/UK/Canada)
PS3 it is something else.
Wii it is Mario Kart and MH3

So yeah CoD is only big on 360.

Here are some of the big name titles on Wii U to have full online play:
Tekken Tag Team 2
Sonic & All Star RAcers
ACIII
FIFA
Madden
Just Dance 4
Scribblenauts Unlimited
ZombiU
Monster Hunter 3U

Also if PC CoD players cannot get CoD: Elite for the PC, what makes you all think Activision will put it in Wii U version?

i know people just love to pay one hundred bucks for their one game only , of course, if they can do it in different steps (game + preorder + collector + elite +live gold ) , but i could not care less about that .
I'm pretty sure that cod will be the best fps on wii u for a long time , simply because it does have wiimote pointer support (from a proven developer even) and online play . Heck it's going to be the first coop online fps game on a nintendo platform ever .
so probably going to buy it at one point .
