If it's just one commercial of many more to come with an agressive ad campaign then it was good just to tell people its a NEW CONSOLE. If this is a main commercial wellll, not so good.
I feel like this is ok. It's a tad corny at times, and doesn't show enough of the games until the end. I hope the American advertisements are refined a bit more.
Awesome that they played this advert for the first time during such a popular and amazing drama like Homeland. Shows Nintendo are taking the adult gamer market seriously and not just focusing on old people/kids this time.
well, it gets the idea across, but it's not very good... imo
It comes out 12 days sooner over here than it does in the UK, and the only advertisement i've seen here was in a walmart ad. They really need to step it up, or just announce that it's delayed already. (i kid i kid) Whoever did the first US Wii ads needs to do the Wii U ones, and they MUST show off TVii, families playing Nintendo Land, and Off-TV play. And air it during Monday Night Football.
I'm gonna say this from a hardcore gamer's perspective, which I am, and a true Nintendo fan since the NES.
Very unimpressive. Very uninspired slogan. Annoying voice over. Cheap. There was a huge potential and there was so much stuff that should've been said and shown in one minute.
they really wanted to make sure people understand this time . It's decent , it avoids the trap of wanting to explain it too much , that's probably why the wiimote is not shown .
It was pretty good. Could have been a lot better, but it gets some of the major points across. Hopefully they come up with something catchy for the US.
Entity wrote:Good thing they showed some games and not just the controller, so the moron who didn't understand that it's A NEW CONSOLE back from E3 2011 do not repeat that sad, sad mistake. It's OK if you have no interest in gaming, or very little of it, but when the gaming MEDIA didn't get it when 1: They SAID it's a brand new console and 2: We got the Garden demo, Zelda demo and several other games that could never run on the Wii U....
Surely you mean the Wii, not Wii U... Because if we can have real time demos, then it can definitely handle it.. Especially since they got those demos running in just 3 days...

Weird generalisation. This one definitely feels like it was made for kids TV, but generally their ads are no cheaper looking than their US counterparts.
@TheBitBlock Ours are generally more to the point [and cheap, yes], than the American high style over substance ones [which still come off just as cheap].
I thought the advert was good. I really liked it. Sells the GamePad concept very well.
And it says "New Console" right at the beginning.... so I don't think people are gonna be too confused about that.
Think it should've been put during X Factor as well as the likes of Homeland [for mass market exposure], though.
It's a bit on the cheap side, but it does get straight to the point. It even outright says "a BRAND NEW CONSOLE with a BRAND NEW CONTROLLER" right from the get-go, so I'd say its job was accomplished.

It actually WAS shown fora brief moment when NSMB U was up.
To assume the public at large is educated is a huge mistake, that's why politicians write their speeches for an 8th grade reading level. I think an ad like this is very effective for that reason. It clears up any conceivable misconceptions about this being an add on for the Wii, doesn't confuse the situation with Wiimotes, and clearly indicates a few advantages of the new controller. Corny, yes, but effective? Absolutely.
is anyone else worried, that during the eshop titles, they put a disclaimer saying 'available before march 31' as if to say the eshop won't be ready at launch, but at some undefined point in the "launch window"? I'll just buy those games on steam in that case. sorry nintendo, you aren't the only game in digital town.
I think it did exactly the job they were aiming for - educate the mass-market that it is a new console and you can play off-tv, and for good measure throw in a game montage at the end. I would have liked to have seen Call of Duty in there but doesn't Microsoft usually throw around money to get the footage as part of their TV advertising?
Also, is SPING! SPING! SPING! the new PEW! PEW! PEW!?
Why do UK Nintendo commercials seem so damn cheap and generic?
And so begins the road to Wii U.
Seems pretty ok. Could have been better, and much worse. ^^
so horrible!
hopefully they put more funding to NOA's PR team
Pretty good.. very explicit, which is good for the general audience.

This is a great commercial for the General Audience. Exactly who it was aimed at.
Not bad, but I'm suprised there was no mention of Miiverse, I thought the social media capabilities would've been a key selling point.
Also I didn't hear the word 'Nintendo' at all... weird.

@internet 0:17 its there but they don't mention it.
...it's like an awful 2 AM infomercial.

A bit naf in places, but would get me interested if I'd never heard of the WiiU before.
