Worried about the Murphy discussion with Rayman Legends? Don't want to play as anyone but Rayman? Sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Rich over at IGN was asked if it was possible to play the entire game without using Murphy. He was also asked if you can play without the GamePad. Rich simply answered 'yes' to both questions.
I'm definitely playing GamePad, but it's nice to know the Murphy aspects are completely at your discretion.

Isn't Murphy the guy that uses the Gamepad to mess with the environment? I don't think you LITERALLY play as him.
I'm glad they're optional. If the entire game is playable on the GamePad screen, I think it'd be fine, but when I tried the demo, it was kind of jarring having to tap the GamePad, tilt the game pad, wonder why the platform wasn't tilting, look down, see that it hadn't registered my tap, tap the screen again, check that it'd taken the tap that time, then tilt the GamePad again.
Not to mention that you suddenly had Rayman on-screen and he was moving by himself with no explanation. o_o
It's going to be tricky to integrate the GamePad screen into gameplay without breaking the flow.
Perhaps if the GamePad made a sound to show it registered the tap?

Yeah, the single player portion of the game. What's so confusing?
It's not very common to use that word to refer to the single player portion of a non-shooter game. I kinda feel like words like "campaign" from the shooter lexicon are working their way into everyday gamer lexicon. I may be a shooter game fan but I haven't started doing that yet (I still say "single player" when talking about playing alone in a game like Mario or Sonic).
I guarantee this was changed because of the backlash. Probably threw a wrench into the schedule.
