In the image above, the Arabic script on the floor translates to the name of Allah. Having people walk all over the name Allah isn't exactly a good thing. This has been brought to the attention of the dev team, which has already pledged to have the feature removed.

I don't understand it... you know these references will have to be removed so why include them in the first place? Maybe to get some attention...
It's the principal of trying that's why. I commend them for that much at least.
I don't think they were "trying." It's easy to pull from things in other languages that you don't know and to have things that don't make any sense. How many goofs have you seen online of mis-translations just in English?
The thing I don't get is why things like this have to be removed. It's the only religion I know of that everyone will bend to, to remove references to.
If it's part of the architecture of the location, I don't care what deities I'm walking on.
Guess I didn't make my position clear. I think it's bullshit if they remove these.
People need to grow up. Screw Religion.
I should get someone to hack my game and put it back.
So...you guys are pissed because they want to be respectful?
The location is in Saudi Arabia so the architecture isn't accurate since Saudi Arabia is a Muslim country.
im all about respecting others religion..personally i am not religious,
and tho i understand why muslims would find this offensive..theres also the point that we dont solve these issues when christians or other religions find it offensive.
personally i think making exceptions for muslims simply because we see them as a terroristic threat is ridiculous..if we are going to tell christians to suck it up..ppl need to have the balls to say it to them aswell..not hide behind some apology and rectify it simply because it becomes
a political issue to upset these ppl
The Juggalo had the most mature post in this thread.
Nice first post Monoxzide, I look forward to seeing you add more mature and well thought responses to this site.
Also for some, religion isn't just something that they just chose to follow. It can mean something deeper like their culture, their heritage, history and identity.
I'm sure your responses would look a lot less like they came from Kotaku if instead of religion the developer had accidentally offended your ethnicity or the culture of your country with something taboo.
Allah must care so much about this.
I'm sure he cares just as much as any other fairy tale character would if his name were getting trampled on.
But you know, apparently this is a big deal. How dare there be something that offends someone of some religion somewhere. After all of the torture and hardships so many of their deities endured you would think their followers would have thicker skin. Gotta love people.
That's an interesting point, actually. Would be a lot cooler if it was being modified for accuracy, but it was mainly just people whining to Harada about being offended.
I agree, and disagree. I am personally very spiritual, but NOT religious in any fashion, and I do think there is a stark distinction. In fact I personally feel the two are often mutually exclusive. I think respecting other people's beliefs is very important. But on the other hand, I will concede that it does seem like certain elements of the so-called "Muslim World" are entirely too sensitive when it comes to anything related to their religion. It's one thing to believe "Okay, I, as a follow of Islam, am not allow to depict Mohammed the Prophet in ANY visual way at all". But to say NO ONE ELSE can, even though they're not Muslim, is rather silly. It's one thing for someone to be a dick and actually straight out mock or insult their religion. But on the other hand, it's another matter entirely for someone to just make a simple depiction, and still get death threats from the extremists.
I personally feel some sense of spirituality is a good and healthy thing for human beings to have. It helps us keep a more cerebral connection to each other, and the world around us. But if you ask me, organized religion, most specifically, the monotheistic "I know the one and only Truth, and you're a heathen dog who's going to burn in Hell forever" religions, have done far more harm than good to human civilization.
And I don't even think, looking at history, that that is an "opinion". It's kind of backed up by centuries of empirical data. It's like Chris Rock said in "Dogma", it's one thing to have an IDEA. But when you let that idea become a BELIEF, that's the sh** people get crazy and kill over.
Well tell UN to stop giving them special protections from bad mouthing their culture, cause they been lobbying for more and more because they got some. They don't deserve shovel, its as bad as affirmative action (that's a racist policy btw). So yeah. And most of the time the reason these things are edited after the fact is because it was taken from stock textures/graphics.
The point is there should BE no taboo. And that it's ridiculous to even have a piece of paper on the floor in a video game that says the name of your religion's god be something that is SUCH sacrilege that it HAS to be removed. THAT is too much.
These are tough times we live in. I just watched Alejandro Jodorowsky's "The holy mountain" and I realized that a film like that could not be made now with all it's religious symbolism and imagery. It's a shame that creative work is limited by extremism
Here here for a while I've thought this it seems aacceptable for Christians tto have potentially offensive material in media but if its an Islamic reference its got to be removed irrespective of how harsh it may be remember the chanting that was taken out of Zelda (fire temple) because it might offend? How could it its almost facisism lets allow a degree of creativity! Yes I accept some things are going too far but.I'm this case its no where near that
It seems like this is a pro-active move. Not a reactive one. And it seems like the mistake was made out of an ignorance by the Japanese developers (people are acting like americans are causing/making the change).
I say, kudos to Bamco for removing it.
Shouldn't they be happy that such a thing is being represented?
I think it's a neat design and goes well with the architecture of the stage.
Yeah, why is anyone getting upset over this?
This whole mentality of "Islam shouldn't be getting more respect because of yadda yadda" is backwards. Rather than trying to permit muslims to be treated as crappily as every other religion, how about we just stop treating all the other religions like crap?
Sheesh, Westerners and their "get over it" mentality.
Because they didn't make the game with the state of mind thinking about people countries with crazy dictators (who think all Jews should be exterminated) buying their games. If such a thing were to be released there, Namco Bandai would get a crazy amount of life threats.
Still, I don't think anyone should complain about Muslims being offended by this, especially if the architecture is accurate.
Regardless, it would be nice to see some a mistake or inclusions of stuff like this (in any media form) not result in thousands of deaths threats. Of course, that's what extreme regimes like the ones ruling Saudi Arabia do...
... destroy all things intelligent they can't use for control. Because quite frankly, it isn't about the religion (Islam). It's about control. What human beings like this will do for control (or the illusion of it) is absolutely astounding (in a very sickening way).
