See, this is one thing I just don't understand.
Why is it presented as such a big deal for the Gamepad to give us a direct point and click interface for stuff on-screen, when the Wii Remote already offered nearly identical functionality? This shop interface would have worked perfectly well with a pointer like that on a Wii Remote. Same thing with the touchscreen features in games like NSMBU and Rayman Legends, and the whole TVii thing. As for the second screen for stuff like maps and secondary information, they could have just used a transparent overlay brought up by holding down a button.
Okayyy. With the help of my friend studying Japanese in college and Google translate, here's what we found:
-Same concept as 3DS eShop. Download retail games, add-on content (DLC), and "free trial software" I assume this is about demos.
-Use download cards to download retail games.
-Integration with Miiverse. Post comments on any software title (Not sure if this is text only or drawn comments or both) Same rating system as 3DS, rate a title on a 5 star scale.
-Might be obvious, but the eShop's interface will be in HD and most content will be HD as well (again, not sure if this means 720p or 1080p)
-"for convienence" you can watch a video on the eShop on the tv or the Gamepad if you'd like
The only peculiar thing that I found confusing. It relates to the Wii shop channel. My friend wasn't able to distitnguish what it said, so we google translated to this,
"Wii points that are registered in the "Wii Shop Channel" are not available in the "Nintendo eshop"
Seems kinda weird, as it contradicts earlier reports saying that Wii points would also transfer along with a Wii-to-Wii U transfer. We might investigate to see if we can clarify this, but so far this is what we found out!
looks very meh. I don't have much hope that they will ever nail a good shop interface.
at least it looks at least as functional as the 3ds. but it looks a bit behind steam and ps store.

i was wondering that exact same thing, i think it means that despite all your stuff transferring from your wii to your wii u (wii shop channel points included) you cannot transfer the points from the actual wii shop channel to the eshop. you will have top use those points on old wiiware and vc games!

Saw that earlier today. Thought it was terrible at first, but it's grown on me. Think it's better than before, actually. Except for the search. Search is a piece of crap now.
I can't wait to buy MARIO....although LUIGI is lookin' pretty good too
based on what? this picture? from the sounds of it, it seems like its going to be an improved version of the 3ds e-shop, which in my opinion, is great! ive NEVER had an issue finding anything on the eshop.. where as i find xbox live market place to be a cluster eff.. and ive heard mostly complaints about psn
while the picture doesnt tell me much, i have hope that this will turn out great..
Looks like that website also has information on MiiStudio. Dunno if this is old news or not.
Something also noteworthy I would like to point out is that skimming through the website, we found out that perhaps we might not able to use SD cards as a way of extending our storage, it seems that will only be possible with a USB hard drive.

If true, will kinda be a bummer, but I'm planning on getting a 1TB hard drive for it anyway
Hopefully the Wii U eShop will have a sense of life in it, instead of everything being so still like the 3DS eShop.
Like live updates, changing pinbaords like PSN or XBLA, things to do other than just downloading games.

I think it's weird that the news button is tagged with an orange dot. We've been conditioned to treat blue as "news from online," where the Wii Connect24 makes the Wii disc slot glow blue, SpotPass makes the 3DS light blue, and on the eShop, the blue News button gains a blue dot when there's news.
What happened?
Hard to tell how functional it will be from just a single screenshot, but it looks promising. It will probably be similar to the 3DS one...
Is it news or Miiverse comments? if so, it might be a new post from one of your friends, as it's the color the 3DS light take when a friend is now online

It does say pretty much what you have there.
It just means that any wii points you have registered on the wii shopping channel cannot be used in the nintendo eshop, which is to be expected.
Of course, if you do that one time only full transfer of wii stuff to the wii u, then like stated with that, your points will move over there, meaning that then you'll have points (or money I guess) in the eshop and not the wii shopping channel, so you'll be able to use them then. But yeah, as long as they're left on the wii shop channel, you won't be able to automatically use them on the wii u, unless you move them over like this.

Yeah, I noticed that when reading the Q&A part too. Indeed it does say that you cannot use SD cards to expand space used for downloaded stuff.
It does say "news". That is a very interesting thing to point out. Then again, maybe a orange dot (to go with the orange buttons) just means "the contents that this button brings you to have been updated", whether its a news button or not. In the miiverse stuff, if some info gets delivered to you, maybe there'll be a general blue glowing something somewhere to show "some news for you" like with the 3DS?

But from that picture I can't tell much, but it looks ok I guess.
It's looking quite nice but like I already said, I just want to get hands on and actually go through it myself.
I think transfered Wii points can only be used to buy for WiiWare games. So you'll have 2 different credits (Wii points and Nintendo eShop points).
