UPDATE - The man that recorded the video has now left a comment stating that he didn't realize his headphones had a built-in mic. On the flip-side, we've had someone on Miiverse report that iPhone headphones allow you to use the GamePad mic. In other words...I have no idea what the hell is going on! Thanks to ArakniD and Phantastic for the heads up.

Good to know. I guess you need ear buds because the game already uses the gamepad's speakers? Maybe we can see future games that allow you to use the controller's mic and speakers without anything else? If not, no big deal since everyone has ear buds.

I guess it makes sense that you would have to use earphones since the speakers are pretty close to the mic (which would create a lot of annoying feedback or echoes). So yes, great news!

You may want to try ear buds that have a microphone built-in. The kind you would use with a cell phone.

The problem is... You'll hear a lot of klicketiclick from all the button pressing and stick moving...
You dont have to Buy special headsets either. I use my standard iphone 4s apple earphone/mic and it works fine...not the best quality buts it serves its purpose

This has been reported to not be true. What actually happened was that he didn't know his headphones had a built in mic. He was talking to that mic instead. We still can't use the gamepad mic to chat. BUMMER. But don't go spreading the news that it works now.......At least it's confirmed that other headphones can work that isn't official.
Yeah, the reason iPhone earphones work is because they have a mic built in. Any pair of headphones with a mic built in should work.
