The following predictions come from Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter...
- decline of 11 percent in console software sales "due to continuing gamer fatigue and sustained Nintendo weakness."
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II saw nearly a 20 percent year-over-year sales dip
- Nintendo had an "underwhelming launch" for Wii U and "continued weakness" in general
- 675,000 Wii U units were sold at US retail in its second month
- "very low" software attach rate (close to one title per hardware unit)

The reports from the analysts don't completely correspond to what we hear from retailers.
I also wonder if not having released information -- like every other form of entertainment -- hurts the perception of video games in general and allows analysts to set their own agendas in particular.

Didn't the Wii U sell 2.2 Mil units? I dunno about anyone else, but that's certainly more than what 360 did in 2005 within 1-2 months and even PS3.. You know, when the economy wasn't crap like it is now?
The sales of the console aren't as good as the wii was during the same time, but it was certainly better than the ps360 during the same time frame. The software sales don't make a lot of sense to me. The software attach ratio is reported at around 1.1, seeing as I have bought 6 games would that mean that around 4-5 people who picked up the wii u didn't buy any games for it? The data sounds kind of wrong, it might also be because of digital sales since they aren't being counted. Since they aren't counted anyone who goes completely digital will show up as a buyer who bought no games. (I'm not saying digital sales will make up for a large group, but I imagine a lot of people are buying at least one game from the eshop)
I don't really follow Pachter, what is this "Nintendo Weakness" he's referring to? Something he's ever explained, or just some made up BS marketing term meant to spread FUD?
I think CoD is finally burning out and people are moving on from it. It worked for awhile, but Activision is too stupid to realize that they've basically made a bubble and when it bursts it's going to hurt them HARD.
As for the Wii U it's selling fine. The spring looks to have quality titles and E3 will no doubt bring surprises
I dare people not to comment the usual about Pachter.
stock price and profits.
and if that attach rate is true, I hope nintendo is ready for an uphill battle.
Pachter's job is to give sound investment advice, not coddle Nintendo fanboys. I love Nintendo but wouldn't invest in them right now either.
So because it didn't do Wii like numbers its underwhelming? Even though it vastly out sold the PS3/360 launches, and has sold more than half of what the Vita did in a whole year. Yeah so if that's underwhelming, than what is the Vita? Down right anaemic I guess.
I don't see how one game per console attach rate is even possible. All systems start off at 1 game per console pretty much and most people I know who own a Wii U have at least 4 retail games and a few downloadable titles. That means that there must be some owners who literally own no games for their system in order to bring the ratio down.
Because they are using Gamestop's numbers not the other retailers who held sales.
That makes complete sense then, because Gamestop seems to be on a downward spiral. I especially think a lot of Nintendo fans aren't so happy with them after how they botched the Wii U launch when other retailers seemed to have no big issues. That combined with the fact that places like Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy are having sales of a lot of bundle types and deals on games means there's just no reason to go to Gamestop.
Gamestop is doing fine.
They just don't do sales like the other retailers.
I've already bought 7 games for my Wii U
I have 7 games for my Wii U. Though 5 of them are digital and 1 of them came with the system.
It would be different if, when he brings up Sony and Microsoft, he didn't make them sound like much better investments when, if anything, they are way worse ones (as far as their video game departments are concerned; unfortunately, they have other divisions that make so much money, they can afford to bleed in the video game world, something Nintendo can't do).
Same here. I was beginning to wonder if there as any accuracy to this low tie ratio that's being reported. I was starting to think I was crazy or something, since I normally don't buy so many launch games...
Wii U is the best console out there, no doubt!
What we want and need is content and we want the same as others offer plus exclusive Nintendo content. Nintendo Land and Mario U is great, Zombi U is good, Nano Assault Neo is a nice game, Little Inferno is fun ... all these games are worth the money.
BUT I honestly won't pay 60-70 bucks for a PS360 port game, where as the PC full fledged version has a 20-30 bucks pricing. When games start to cost 60-70 bucks each, only idiots will buy them. PC is the way to go!
I what online MP and rankings in multiplayer games. I want TV streaming on my Wii U or 3DS, but in germany, there are some mafia-like "companies" like Sony BMG, GEMA, GEZ etc.. who forbid media on devices, we already paid for.
Nintendo has to deliver the very best Mario Kart U for Wii U with awesome visuals with 60 fps and a cheater free online experience with rankings, replays, ghost of your friends and tournaments and instead of "mirror", they should offer "reverse" with some fine tuning of the courses to be able to go reverse.
