The fact that they just in 2012 implemented a legitimate online system and they still tie purchases to individual pieces of hardware tells us that Pachter is indeed correct.

Wii U purchases are tied to your NNA, sheesh. You just can't move your account. Why? I dunno. Nintendo being Nintendo again...sigh.

He's not wrong. They do. I mean, they basically just think that all advancements in gaming are phases unless they did it first. If they didn't, then they will wait to adopt it until they are in a corner of people getting upset and nobody making games for the console.

The only things they tend to do right are the things that they, themselves, created. Everything else they just sit on or avoid as long as financially possible.

@KingBroly

It's tied to the account, but since the account is tied directly to the console, it's the same thing as being tied to the console.

And since downloads are playable by all accounts, and demo plays are shared, it doesn't really feel like there's a difference. Unless you can't download a game as another account, which, is irrelevant for Wii U since it's not leaving the console anyway.

It is kind of weird that Nintendo moves so fast when it comes to certain things (Dual Screens with the DS, 3DS and Wii U, Motion with the Wii, etc.) but other parts they do move very slowly.

I agree with them taking too long. Remember when Wii Speak came out for Animal Crossing City Folk? What a let down.. Also that Wii MotionPlus add-on for the Wii remote that came with Wii Sports Resort, then months later it's built in for FlingSmash... like really? They should hire people that have experience in these areas if they want to build a robust online community, infrastructure, or a slick UI for their products.

Sorry, but sometimes letting Mr. Miyamoto in charge of hardware decisions don't come out as astounding as they could've been on the technical side. Let another great visionary designer do the job.

Right now, I'm trying to move my MHTri save over to the Wii U (just that game only). I can't do it because Wii U won't let you copy or move certain saves that don't allow it. The only way to do it right now is to use the transfer tool, but then I'd have to move every and all the games over, and I don't want to do that. I only want just bring MHTri over. Why didn't they think of this? They need to introduce cloud saves man.. They must come up with a long-term solution, but why the heck they it take them this long to come up with Nintendo Network and eShop! It's a step in the right direction, but they still need to improve upon some account-based things like being able to sign on your NNID on another Wii U console (single sign-in at a time). If they need ideas, they should hire me! I've got plenty that they could improve upon.

I've actually thought that for awhile now. Nintendo is VERY slow when it comes to moving an idea along. They tend to over think things, they think about something WAY longer than they need to.

Like Norwegian politicians... Heck..Like politicians in general!

he's spot on with this. but I'll submit that the problem is their ideas. not how long it takes to implement them.

haha Pachter's been slinging the mud N's way lately.

Nintendo's just slow at adopting disastrous business ideas like forced online and broken, overpriced hardware.

However, where it counts, in game advancement, they are always first.

I agree with Pachter...

Wii U should have launched 2011 or even 2010 when Kinect/PS Move came out. The Wii was basically dead then and it would have given them an even playing field.

I love Nintendo as much as the next fan but their decisions sometimes leave me so baffled.

Yep completely agree with Patcher.

It's called 'paitence', Pachter. Nintendo aren't hares. They're tortoises. And slow and steady wins the race.

Pachter is a nonce
Everything he says about Nintendo is mostly doom and gloom so why bother agreeing with him?

I am completely FLUMmoxed. How is it reMOTELY possibly that Nintendo, after ALL these years of NOT doing it right, of getting it wrong, of making reDICulous business decisions that are comPLETEly contrary to SANE business practices is STILL in business? How, how, how?!?

Why, they should have collapsed into the singularity of their own incompetence and stupidity YEARS ago.

It defies ALL business logic. All!

Nintendo is the luckiest, moronic business in the LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG history of corporations.

Oh, if only the Mighty Patcher, sagacious sage and arbiter-despenser of the cumulative business acumen of the universe across all time and space would shed some light onto this most puzzling of conundrums, this enigma of mysteries.

Then again, can we mere mortals, even begin to dream to hope to understand such lofty, god-like knowledge such as He Of The Elevated Business Mind has percolating and bubbling, perambulating as-it-were along the highways and bywas, the avenues and streets and back alleys of his supernal mind? Oh alas. Oh alack... oh and etc. and etc. and so on and so forth.

then just play mhtri on your original wii. if this were any other system, you wouldn't have the option to transfer ANYTHING to your new console and utilize backwards compatibility at all anyway. you would HAVE to play on the old console, so why not do that here instead of whining about how stupid nintendo is and how terribly they do things?

i would rather nintendo spend their time and effort and money on improving their current undertakings, rather than partition a chunk of valuable resources off to try and 'fix' the past.

lotta big talk coming from a bunch of people who have never had to run a multibillion dollar entertainment company before....

I doubt Nintendo knew the wii would die as quickly as it did, and releasing the wii U a couple of years ago would have made it more expensive, weaker, or lacking several of the features it has now. Which, would force them to make the wii 2 HD+ in a couple of years. The wii HD was always a stupid idea from patcher

Maybe it's not a matter of wanting to move one game as it is a matter of NOT wanting to move things. Since the launch of the Wii U, I've been piecemeal transferring many of my later, non-online enabled Wii games (Red Steel 2, Rayman Origins, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Animal Crossing CF, etc) so I can finish them w/o having to completely strip my Wii of everything useful.

Nintendo plans on being in business 10,25,50,100 years down the line.

The problem is investors do not care about a 10 year plan but rather if the stock is going to go up tomorrow.

lol people hes paid to bash nintendo? come on, just because he criticizes a few decisions doesnt make him the devil. try to take off your nintendo fanboy hat and listen. hes not bashing nintendo. hes just pointing out that their strategies are never bleeding-edge of technology. they lag a few years behind their competitors. This is a true statement, not an attack on the company. Dont take his comments as so negative.

Which would be true if gaming was a tech only industry. But it's not. The focus is games, because it's the games industry after all.

Where are the mentions of how Sony and MS need to catch up with Nintendo in actually making outstanding games? They don't exist. Sony and MS have spent years redefining gaming from a technology perspective and apparently they've been very successful.

Too bad it's not the technology alone that makes a game great.
