Coming from SEGA's blog...
On February 2nd in 1994, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was released in the US, and it was dubbed “Hedgehog Day”. For the past few years, we’ve revived this day as a holiday for all Sonic fans. We’ve got some great stuff coming up this year, but we’re not ready to talk about it just yet.

Probably waiting for Sony to announce the PS4 on February 20th first...as the recent rumor did suggest the game was coming to both current and next gen consoles AND the announcement would be in late February instead of the usual early February/hedgehog day announcement.
Just tell us already!
Sorry Sega, another rodent had today first.
Happy Groundhogs day!
Nope! Groundhog day is known as Hedgehog day everywhere except America. America hates those hedgehogs for some reason. An episode of Bob the Builder was actually renamed from "Bob Saves the Hedgehogs" to "Bob Saves the Porcupines" for American release. Anyways, if you unscramble the bolded letters in the post itself, it spells out 'red herring'. Perhaps the new game is for "next-gen" consoles and the announcement is happening after the PS4 event?
Hope the next main game is more ambitious than that last fan-looking rumour sounded [playing it safe with the now semi-decent Generations gameplay etc.] - whilst keeping Tails and Knuckles being playable again [I'd like Amy and her SA1 hammer gameplay explored more too, if there was a 4th slot, but I know that's never happening].
Well they never brought Sonic the hedgehog 4 episode 2 to the WiiWare service so that is where sega missed out. What next Sonic the hedgehog 4 episode 3 for PS4 and xbox 720 with no Wii U release? thanks but no thanks. I would prefer that if they make a game they release it across the board delays or not.
I think SEGA took the right direction with Colors and Generations. They just need to focus more on unique experiences for each stage, add more personality to the story and fix Sonic's clunky jump... or at least get rid of those annoying little flying platforms
