Mercurysteam once again shows interest in working with Contra

Coming from a (Google translated) Games TM interview with David Cox...

"I'm a big fan of Contra. After Castlevania, Contra is my second great love. The thing about Contra is that since Contra III was not a mainstream game more - but the rest are absolute core gamer title. I think it cries out for a reboot! If we are to have the opportunity or not, I can not say. But Contra would be cool ... " - David Cox

I definitely think it's time for Contra to get some love. Konami teased a return a couple years back, but nothing happened. Time to make good on that tease!

Contra wouldn't work at 20 FPS.

I never got to play WayForward's Contra 4. I want to though. I'd also play a MercurySteam Contra. I'd seem pretty cool.

Contra 4 was really cool. Definitely check that out if you can find it.

Also, I'd LOVE to see these guys take on Contra. That's an action-packed series that could benefit from the right amount of spectacle.

uh, we already got an unofficial 3D Contra: it was called Vanquish. Trust me Cox, if you can't match that then you got no business acting like you could do the series justice. Especially when Lords of Shadow wasn't really that good

I still play the original Contra fairly often. I never really played much of the others, but want to get back into them. Suggestions on which one to try first and where to get it?

Related to the actual topic, I'd love a wii u or 3ds contra.

Contra III: The Alien Wars on SNES is really good, I think. It had a GBA port, but I never played it so I can't say much about it. Contra: Hard Corps on Sega Genesis was good too, plus you could play as a girl which was cool.

Hell no, they already ruined one of my all time favorite franchises, now they want to ruin Metroid and Contra, no thanks. I hope they stay away from any good franchise, maybe they could bring back Shaq Fu, though I don't know if they could do it justice. Besides WayForward already made an excellent Contra game a few years ago, and the one for Wii Ware was pretty good too, but it was kind of easy for a Contra game.

8) Not a big Contra fan, in fact I never had the chance to really play it, just a couple times on my PSX.

I just got Castlevania MoF and I understand why so manu people is complaining about it. Sure, it doesn't feel like the classic regular handheld Castlevania, but that isn't bad at all, perhaps the problem is that this one was made specifically thinking about LoS fans ...

I'm enjoying the game and the story so far, I kida like the new autosave feature, I can just turn off the 3ds without taking care of going into a save point :D

BUT I still think DS versions (except for OoE) are better than this one, I just love all the weapons and souls and unlockables :D

No thanks. I'll take another wayforward contra before these guys take a crack at it.

I'll take a portable wayforward castlevania before these guys get another try too

NONONONONO

ESPECIALLY after playing Mirror of Fate!

Let WayForward or M2 handle it! NOT MercurySteam!

Well, Super C is a good game and its out on the 3DS VC. It's not one of my favourites, though.

Definitely pick up a copy of Contra III. And Contra IV. And, if you can, play Contra: Hard Corps. Hard Corps is one of the best in the series IMO.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend Contra ReBirth, even if you won't get the many references to Hard Corps and Contra III. It's one of the funnest Contra games in recent memory. It's great with a buddy to sit down and play through in a night. Multiple difficulty levels and unlockable characters add the replay value as well.
