RUMOR - Criterion working on Need for Speed: Underground reboot

Is this the official logo for Criterion's next project, a reboot of Need for Speed: Underground? That's the talk on shady corners of the internet right now. It's not too much of a stretch to figure Criterion is working on another Need for Speed brand reboot. I bet we find out the truth come E3.

EA being EA, I think it'll only be published for Xbox 360, PS3, and maybe PS4/720 as well. I don't know why they'd leave Nintendo console owners out, but I don't know if they'll ever mention it coming to 3DS or Wii U.

This game better be more of a racing sim. If it is I'll buy it. The original game was pretty good but they need better physics.

It'll come here too I bet, just to not miss a cash grab in every areas. It just... Won't be mentioned, that's all.

Not sure why, but I am pleased with the logo artwork.

I hope it doesn't.

The NFS Shift games were some of the worst.

Conversely, Underground had an arcade-y "charm" that made it stand out from other racers at the time.

i would gladly welcome a burnout 2 or burnout 3 remake . I'm a little bit optimistic about this game since it has only been a few weeks since criterion showed they are very competent and i vaguely remember one of them saying they "should" release the nfs game at the same time . Of course , it might just have been a wish on his part , and this game is not fully criterion and it spread between two studios .
yikes - the game is not coming because EA

Screw that. How about rebooting the NFS series back to what it ORIGINALLY was, awesome sports cars on cool looking tracks, BEFORE it went all "Fast and the Furious" and became about retarded "street racing". THAT'S what I want to see. A REAL, honest to god Need For Speed game again.

I'm with you on that. I miss the likes of NFS2...

I got really excited since I own a pretty decent pc, only to get disappointed when I realized I would need origin. Oh well if it hits 3ds, I'd still be pretty happy.

Either way, I loved NFS underground. Along with games like windwaker, halo, and sand andreas, they made gen 4 (?) very memorable.

Didn't Criterion bring that recent NFS game off the skin of their own backs for the Wii U? Depending on sales, we might not be vocally [or visually] excluded from this one's advertising.

Maybe. Probably.

@ninjablaze

Reason why I say this is because if they do it like the original it will pretty much be N4S: hot pursuit with no cops.

Why would you say this when Criterion JUST did such a wonderful job porting NFS:MW over? Granted it shouldn't have beenpriced at $60 but otherwise they did a fantastic job. Aside from Batman it is the best game on WiiU to date.

Criterion did just port the game over, but EA makes the call for which ones of their games are published for which system. Luckily for Wii U owners, it was a PORT, so most of the game didn't need to be created from the ground up. This rumored NFS Underground game will end up being a brand new game. How many brand new games are there on Wii U? How many brand new games are being worked on for Wii U in the near future? There are still brand new games being announced to be released only for the other consoles. and not Wii U, and it hurts to see this happening.

Thinking back, remember what EA said? Wii U isn't a part of the next generation of games that they're planning on working on in the future. So, while we may have the current Need for Speed game on Wii U, a port, we may not see whatever comes to the 720 and PS4 on Wii U.
Still, I believe that when a lot more Wii U consoles are sold to many more people, EA will probably change their minds about how they're currently treating the system, but I can't help but worry if they'll truly give the Wii U their best games, or just make quick money with lazy, rushed, throwaways.

Looking back at the Wii, you'll see that many games from popular franchises (Mortal Kombat, SSX, Soul Calibur, Capcom/SNK fighters, etc.) had maybe just one or a few games for Wii or none at all, many of them being old ports, some being good or undesirable, while the true "next gen" offerings kept going on the other consoles. Look at the Need for Speed games.

Looks really cool!

EWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwww!
What in the hell happened?
What's missing fromt he Wii version?
Effort. Quality work. Developers who game a crap about what they were doing for Wii owners.
The old PS2 ports looked far better than that!
It's NOT the Wii hardware that did this. The old burnout games on even the PS2 looked this bad.

The Wii was truly crapped on.
EA did heavily support the Wii, but not with many of the interesting games that I'd want to buy (which is why many people look into buying other non-Nintendo consoles). I was greatly offended by what they did with Need For Speed and Sims 3, plus, I liked the way Madden and FIFA played, but hated the way the later ones looked.

I hope Need for Speed sold well on Wii U, and I really want Criterion to continue to work on all next-gen consoles (including Wii U) and treat them all equally. On Gamecube, I loved the Burnout games, but when EA took over, everything for Nintendo stopped. You could say that Need for Speed: Most Wanted U is the first "Burnout" game on a Nintendo home console since Burnout 2 in 2003 (10 years ago) was the last.
