“The key is game software. The 3DS and Wii U will sell well if Nintendo provides titles, since not everyone plays games on smartphones and tablets.” - Takashi Oka, an analyst at TIW Inc.

It's true, software moves hardware and there are plenty that don't want to play on a mobile device. We are seeing that with the 3DS, but what about the Wii U? Many have said that a price cut is in order to jumpstart things. Iwata doesn't feel that way.

“Sales momentum is improving in Europe and the U.S.. We’re preparing to introduce software seamlessly throughout the year.”

Finally, Iwata also acknowledged an issue that multiple Nintendo platforms have had over the years. A lack of launch software.

“We seem to always end up with a lack of software in the beginning when we introduce a new platform. That’s a big regret.”

Not every analyst is as optimistic as Mr. Oka, though.

“It’s unclear whether Nintendo can sell the 3DS and Wii U as it plans. The 3DS and Wii U lack the power of appeal.” - Satoshi Yuzaki, general manager at Takagi Securities Co.
