Precursor interested in re-releasing Eternal Darkness on Wii U

Coming from Precursor's Facebook page...

Q: Is there any chance that while in talks with Nintendo you can bring up a possible rerelease of the GameCube's Eternal Darkeness as a Virtual Console release? It would allow hype to build on the game and allow people who had not played before to get into the series!

A: We will definitely discuss that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I don't know that a Virtual Console release would be possible, since we've never seen a GameCube title hit the VC. If this is going to happen, it seems like it would need some new cooperation from Nintendo. Thanks to Alexander for the heads up!

See I think they should have started with this. That way people can have a chance to get pumped about the original, or, as would be the case for most people, discover it.

THEN hopefully Shadow of the Eternals would have gotten a bigger push.

I think that'd be up to Nintendo. I do hope Nintendo releases GC games on the VC sooner or later.

There was very little point in having Gamecube VC titles on Wii since the Wii was compatible with GCN discs (at least the majority of Wiis in circulation are) plus the Wii only had half a gigabyte of storage space (GCN discs had a 1.4gb capacity, and there were games that included 2 discs) The Wii U has a big enough hard drive (not to mention compatible with external hard drives) to make it possible.

DO IT!

WW HD points towards select GC [and Wii] titles only coming out in a physical and digital fashion to me [compared to consoles pre-GC whose games are digital only].

It's definitely a no-brainer, no doubt about that. ^_^

If the Wii U can emulate a full Wii console, it can surely emulate the Gamecube

If that ever happened Nintendo would probably take over the development for Shadows of the Eternals.

If the Zelda Reorchestrated fan project was any indication. Nintendo will sign on just to make sure it has a Nintendo quality due to how big the release was.

This doesn't sound like a small indie spiritual successor, it's starting to sound like an attempted franchise revival.

@enigmaxtreme
Wii U does not emulate Wii. Wii games run natively. At most it emulates the Wii Menu. Just how the Wii didn't emulate GameCube games.
I expect when GameCube games come to the Virtual Console, they'll run natively too, it might need a quick tweak in the game but if the are emulated like the rest of the VC, they'll run horribly.

I have another idea: Ditch the PC version and convince Nintendo to make this game a real official Eternal Darkness sequel.

I think that's what Dyack may be banking on to get full support for his game. As I don't think his goal is going to be reached. He may try to play as close to the fire as possible with Eternals looking so similar, that Nintendo may want to grab the project by the wheel and make it full-fledged, non-episodic game.

Well maybe they would but I'm guessing they have given the real Eternal Darkness 2 to someone else

@enigmaxtreme

Pretty sure buying cancelled Eternal Darkness 2 assets, having the director, concept, gameplay and possibly some returning characters (the silhouettes have what may be Pious & Alexandra) would make this a real sequel.

RMC, Nintendo mentioned early on that GC games would be part of the Wii U VC, as well as GBA.

How in the hell would that "not be possible"? You can download multi-gb Wii U retail titles....why would you not be able to download substantially smaller GC titles?

@dddddd

Exactly.

And if they don't do a Virtual Console release, I'd buy up Wind Waker HD treatment.

I'd believe them not releasing WW on VC for some time because they want people to buy the remake. But I clearly remember, when they originally announced that VC would be coming for Wii U, that GC and GBA titles were specifically listed as new highlights.
