RUMOR - Retro working on a new brand

Coming in at the 24 minute mark...

It would be wonderful to have Retro working on something brand-new for Nintendo. Of course, we also want them to work on Metroid. Which one would you rather have?

I want many things, but I need new Metroid Prime.

Too be honest, I'd rather see them work on a new Star Fox before Metroid. They've given two Nintendo franchises love, I'd like to see what else they can do. Of course, a whole new brand would be great as well.

I would really appreciate a new IP made by Retro, but I would prefer Metroid so I would be sure there won't be another Other M.

Both are great I guess. I hope they can make what they love to make.

Something new, I will always love Nintendo but the best way to future proof me always loving them is to add new franchises to the company. It is time because eventually some IP's are no longer used anymore such as F-Zero which opens up a slot for something new. At the very least Nintendo should have two brand new IP's a gen like Pikmin something that will become famous with Mario and Zelda.

I really want these guys to work on a new IP for Nintendo.

That would be awesome. That being said, I don't believe it is the case and I'm pretty sure they are working on a new game for the Metroid licence. I wouldn't expect anything else if I were you or you'll end up disappointed.

By the way haven't you heard the other rumor? It's Star Tropics guys!!!

I'd rather have a new brand. They were out of ideas for Metroid by Prime 3 and it's probably best for them to do different things with new stuff. I don't get people's obsession with shackling them to Metroid

I really don't mind what they're up to. Whether it's a new IP or a new Metroid, I'll be ecstatic.

Though, I would rather them not be making a sequel to DKCR. I loved the game and if it is a sequel then I'll still be very happy but I feel like Retro should be using their talents to make something as dark as Metroid again (if not Metroid itself.)

I'll just be glad when we can finally be disappointed with what Retro's REALLY working on so we can move on to stuff we actually give a damn about.

You certanly seem sure we will all be disappointed. Retro's project is basically what people are the most excited about right now, so there's enough damn given about it. ^^ Why so negative about it? You might just love it.

i would want Retro to work on a new IP/Brand, rather than having them work on metroid.

I've never really liked any of the metroid games.

A new brand would excite me the most. Enter the FPS ring, Nintendo. And get EA back on your side or start pumping out those Wii U Mario sports titles. A new Mario Strikers from Next Level Games would be fun.

I'd personally rather them work on Mach Rider, but a new brand is cool.

Getting a game from Retro and a new IP from Nintendo would be a dream come true for me, provided it ends up being a cool game. I hope it's true.

If it is a new IP please let it be a "core" one. I.E. shooter or action-adventure with atleast a teen rating and mature themes. Nintendo had enough titles that appeal to children.

while i agree, i think nintendo could use a first/second party game with more mature themes.. i think you were wrong in saying that nintendo has enough titles that "appeal to children". i honestly believe nintendo is one of the few companies that develop games that can be enjoyed by EVERYONE.

Amen. I'm not into violence in my games, and when deciding between consoles I can always count on the vast majority of Nintendo's best titles having just the right amount of violence (that is comic violence, like SSB) for me.

I can't be guaranteed that with any other console, and therefore they're hard purchases for me.

Still, as long as they keep on releasing as many of the universal appeal games they are releasing right now, I can't see any problem with them starting a more mature IP.

Children fall into the category of everyone.

I agree with SatoAilDarko, I hope its a new IP with mature themes. Also i would like to see a 3rd person game, and not a first person game. I'm kinda burnt out on those. I also think that whatever they are working on is probably gonna make a big push for online play, so the genre would have to fit in that.

TBH, I'd rather them do something new so Team Ninja could get another crack at Metroid.

It is true though that Retro's position right now is a bit ridiculous and rather dangerous. Most people are eagerly waiting for their next project and see it as the U short-term savior next to the next 3D Mario and while waiting for Zelda. But the truth is we have no idea what they are working on and having this level of expectation while knowing nothing is pretty much the perfect recipe for disappointment.

That being said if they can really pull this off and still wow people despite their actual level of expectation, then it's going to be epic. But this is a difficult situation they're in.

Wow man, is that irony or are you serious? o_O'

If you are being serious then I'm so glad you're here because I thought I was pretty much the only one hoping for another Team Ninja Metroid game on this site. \o/

And if you're being ironic, then meh. Even more lonely. Whatever. -_-'

Didn't they say it's a classic franchise that everyone wants?

I'm not certain EVERYONE will be disappointed, but I prefer to hope for the best but expect the worst from everything. Retro's 'project' is no different.

I would prefer either/or. Retro does do great work, so I will be happy with whatever they put out.

@Thorn-Rock/Kazin
Fair enough. Personally, I tend to expect the best and end up disappointed. Especially when I try not to, for some reason...

Also, I was disappointed with Other M. But, the gameplay was good, so I would deffinately love another try at it. As long as Samus is a little more, err, less whiny. I've always seen her as a tough and pretty cold and emotionless person, and I can't say I liked the way she acted in Other M. :(
