Kojima - Snake not likely to return in Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS

Coming from Hideo Kojima...

"I'm not working on that game (Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS), but i don't think it's likely (Snake will return). If Mr. Sakurai is watching this, hopefully we see Snake."

Thanks to 8-Bit for the heads up!

Honestly, this was so expected it hurts.

I agree with some comments here, though. Letting such a good and fun moveset go to waste would be awful. I want to throw grenades and mines and C4s and generally annoy everyone on the Wii U too!

to me it's like making a justice league movie and then asking for indiana jones to be in it. It's only going to bring negative attention to smash bros so i hope he's not returning. Since he's not fulfilling the very first and maybe only requirement : to be on a nintendo platforms. I mean Sonic main game series (lost world) is already out on wii u, as for megaman.... well the historic past of course(virtual console) but even Azure bolt or mighty 9 can both be seen as the new mainline main game for the series. Same studio, same style, same platforms, it's not like capcom is going to do anything. Point is the new mgs is on all platforms but the nintendo one, and mgs 3ds was a colossal disaster despite that golden opportunity... i think i don't care enough about the game to start the demo.

so it's nice that Mr. Sakurai is a professional but he really should not promote others companies' products. And Mr Kojima should not ask him because with that statement he just did. Let's stop at those two icons : megaman and sonic. The rest of the characters can easily be in the next brawler that namco despite not offering soul calibur, is quite sure to make.

without a deep coop mode i won't bother with the game, i know i am in the ultra minority.

Now, the real problem with your statement is that Sakurai picks characters that have appeared on Nintendo consoles. The reason that he picked Sonic is because Nintendo has had a relationship with Sega since the Gamecube generation. Sonic is back in Smash because Sega has a three game deal with Nintendo and Smash is a big game and it can be used to promote Sonic's games. On the other hand, no Metal Gear game is going to be developed for the Wii U. Why would Nintendo use one of their high profile games to promote a character that appears in games on the other consoles? It would not make sense and I hope that it does not happen. If Kojima wants his character to be in Smash then he should be willing to develop his games for the Wii U, it's only fair.

Pretty much; Kojima practically begged for Snake to be put into Brawl but then did nothing but halfassed support for Nintendo systems. If he isn't going to respect Nintendo, then why should Sakurai respect Kojima?

I think this was already addressed but it was his kids the ones who plead Kojima to put one of his characters in Smash. Although maybe the MC of Boktai could have mixed well with Nintendo mascots.

@Aiddon
So every character that is brought in owes dues after and on a regular basis? Are we getting any new megaman games now?
@internet
It was only stated that a character needed to have been on a nintendo system at one point, snake did that, even before brawl and after it with mgs3d. And even if you try to paint MGS3D in a bad light, it doesnt matter since it did happen and even got a limited edition 3ds, sonic lost world was crap yet you use it in a positive sense while MGS3D gets picked out? The hypocrisy is overflowing

It didnt matter during brawl, it wouldnt matter now. All these reasons people keep making up like konami didnt support, or that ports dont matter are ridiculous. Seriously would sakurai really be that petty? Hes already shown that he wont do things in that way, and will never focus on the likes of console wars and fan BS. How is nintendo supposed to broaden its appeal or even to third parties if they stay closed off to the ones that arent kissing ass?

While I don't have a problem if Snake returns or not, I didn't like how Brawl had elements from Metal Gear Solid 4, a game that was still in development at the time of Brawl's release, essentially promoting lightly a then-upcoming PS3 exclusive.

I would have cared more about Snake's return if Konami has not gone downhill by ruining it's franchise starting with Silent Hill and closing Hudson Entertainment.

The backlash from the softcore Nintendo fanboys about my previous post wasn't nearly as prolific as I expected. I did think it was funny that the 1st one to respond to it had a username that referenced Pokemon and said that by expressing my opinion loudly, I'm showing what's wrong with the gaming industry. Kinda proved my whole point about Nintendo's softcore problem. As I see it.

Anyway, I would kill a man if it guaranteed Snake's return. But, I would find Simon Belmont an o.k. substitute. But it has to be SIMON. Meaning he has to look like the NES version or else the version from Captain N. PAC-Man would be my next choice

Good. I was arguing with some dip on IGN about how Snake was most definitely not returning and all the person kept saying was that "Snake has half of his games on Nintendo platforms and that is more than enough reason to bring him back" and I kept saying that Sakurai won't add him, because Snake's games aren't on the WIi U...

Like I said, the guy was a total dip and anyone who liked his post was and is a dip as well. Snake isn't going to be in SBB4, because he is pretty much irrelevant to Nintendo now (regardless of past history) and I don't really care at all. I never liked him to begin with.

I enjoyed having Snake in Brawl, I actually gave Metal Gear a shot after seeing the reveal trailer. I fell in love with the series, it wasn't at all what I was expecting. Snake was pretty fun to play as. That said, I never felt like he was a good fit, or even that deserving. I'd be happy to see him come back, but I don't expect him to, nor would I be upset if he didn't come back.

Somehow it ended up the opposite for me. I tried MGS4 after brawl but I thought it was ok. Not really my type of game. Snake not coming back is expected because he is a third party character that just didn't fit the roster.

That said, it isn't a huge loss. I am very skeptical on Sakurai and his claims of making it more competitive. I doubt it will ever have the depth melee had so smash is now more of a "pick up and see if it is good" game that I probably will drop in a month for melee again. It isn't about wavedashing, although there isn't anything wrong with that mechanic as it is way harder than Marvel vs capcom version. It has to do more with grab balancing, hitstun, and landing lag reduction. Oh and dash speed. I can't see his new ledge priority system as anything that helps competitive play as grabbing the ledge was made braindead in brawl, adding another handicap like priority if you are on lower percent just makes it not great. And you can still use multiple airdodges, a problem for aggressive play in my book.

While I wouldn't hate to see Snake return, I really wasn't a fan of him, not of his playstyle, or just for the fact that I didn't Think he 'fits' well with the other characters. :/ So, if removing him gives us any other character, I'd prefer that. And I expect Pac-Man to "take his Place", making Three third party characters in a whole.

I don't really care much, Snake is pretty much irrelevant to Nintendo and Nintendo history (despite being on nintendo consoles earlier) and while it ight be nice to have a different playstyle, I can't say I used him much. (Mostly to try getting the codec conversations, actually) If he does make it back that's fine, but I won't miss him a lot if he's gone.

'Hardcore' 'softcore' 'nintendo fanboy' 'sony fanboy'. You seem to be too invested in your video games there buddy, they're not a contest and you don't need to 'throw sand' in other people's face. Please grow up, you're everything that's wrong with the people that play video games.

To be fair all the other users with their noses pointed to the air going "Well since new MGS games aren't on Nintendo systems we don't need him anyhow" don't sound any better.

Really ?? NEVER liked MGS games !?!??! :shock:

I LOVE MGS ... my favorite being MGS from PSX and then MGS3 (and 3DS version)

I know some people that are interested on this new SSB but ONLY if Snake/GrayFox is playable ... :roll:

Its like most people is deeply hurt because there wont be any MGS game for WiiU and in response to that they try to look cool with no Snake on SSB.

Its ok, no big deal but I don't buy that "I don't care, Snake isn't good enough for SSB anyway" argument.

^ There is a Edit button, you know. Double (and triple) posting is agains the rules.

I really didn't care for Snake's playstyle, I don't like his games, and I don't like the character itself. And I'd say he doesn't "deserve" to be in the next Smash. But we'll see.

Snake appeared in Metal Gear on NES and had a few other games on nintendo systems, so he's not Sony exclusive. It just happened that MGS, the most popular game in the series was a PS1 game. While I do think he didn't fit as well as someone like Bill from Contra or Simon Belmont would have, I thought he was a neat idea.
