A look at why Mega Man Legends hasn't been re-released and how Wii U could help

GN Version 5.0

Mega Man Legends 3 was going to debut on the 3DS, but that project was canned. Unfortuantely, it seems like canning Mega Man projects is all that Capcom does with the brand in recent years. Well that and re-releasing classic Mega Man games on various console/portable services. With Capcom loving the re-release scene, why haven't we seen Mega Man Legends released?

Mega Man Legends may have debuted on the PS1, but there was an N64 port later as well. With the Wii U VC getting into N64 releases, now would seem like the perfect time for Capcom to re-release the title. The thing is, there haven't been any re-releases of the game since the original round of ports. Just what in the world is going on?

It seems that there might be an issue with an energy drink company that was part of the original release. The deal has expired and the content would have to be removed if a re-release were to happy. Sony doesn't allow companies to rework classic games if they want to release them as a PSOne Classic. On the flip-side, Nintendo DOES allow developers to tweak games and still release them as a Virtual Console title. In other words, the N64 version being ported to the Wii U VC is the best hope we have right now.
