"Thank God For Dead Soldiers"

Postby Intellectualdiot » 05 May 2006 04:02

Recently, the daughter of Fredrick Waldron Phelps, minister of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas and notorious for spearheading the website GodHatesFags.com, was featured on Fox News and interviewed by Fox on Hannity & Colmes which can be viewed by clicking on the link below:

The video in question

Interesting words... deplorable, sanctimonious, but interesting words. Regardless of your own religious affliations and regardless of whether or not you personally despise the religion in its many forms, people such as this are indicative only of their own outlandish ideology. These individuals who harbor such obvious disregard for the value of human life are a despicable aberration on the human race in themselves.

As a pertinent sidenote, I also found some of the more, shall we say, incendiary, comments uttered by Reverend Phelps:

"The Lord God Almighty killed [the people who died on 9/11], looked at them in the face, laughed and mocked at each one of them as he cast each one of them into hell".

"This is the hypocritical, MODS BAN ME PLEASE-infested, MODS BAN ME PLEASE-run United States of America and we're supposed to respect that MODS BAN ME PLEASE rag flag?"

"The red on that flag stands for MODS BAN ME PLEASE rectal blood".

"On Pope John Paul II's watch, the Catholic Church became the church of the holy pedophiles. And sodomite feces replaced the wafer for their communion service. And Sodomite semen replaced the wine that the Pope drinks".

(I'm actually rather impressed with his uncanny ability to mention me and my fellow sodomites at nearly every turn. I must tip my MODS BAN ME PLEASE hat to him, but I'm sure he'd merely retort that me and my cap will soon have a nice warm place in Hell where we'll be subjected to unbearably large genitalia whose sole purpose is to rip our anal orifices until we realize the horrid err of our homosexual ways.)

Thoughts?

Another reason why religion is dangerous. Hannity is still a jerk off in my opinion.

The ministers in Kansas are fairly zealous, but the people are nice. I know because I used to live there. They live in the bible belt, so they have a community that shares their opinions. They rag on the mormons all the time, as well as any other church that isn't theirs.

Wow.

I've always knew that extremists were ever-present in modern society, but their conviction is usually removed from publicity. Everyone has the right to practice the religion that they feel embodies truth and I don't think this group should be an exception -- regardless of how ridiculously insipid their comments are. While I'm not openly appalled by either the site or the video, I think these people misinterpret what they read, as well as their role as a follower in their respective literatures.

The woman that was speaking for "Westboro Baptist Church" never once gave an extended explanation of her actions. She would always provide the same, short-minded interpretation which seems as though it could be directly quoted from the Bible. Adhering to what I stated above, I believe most religions are generally acceptable from Voodoo to Hindu. This religion, though, is something built upon absense. Their God is absent in their reading, so they manipulate the words of the Bible in order to justify personal opinion via divine rights.

When that occurs, you're conjuring the necessary elements of a religion that could eventually impede others to live their life to it's full potential. This is what causes events such as the Crusades and Reconquista.

As far as the website is concerned: This is the internet and I expect no less. I don't advocate the content scripted onto the website, but I believe the internet should be completely objective. It exists as a facet of the world and, therefore, should be subjected to no one country or person's opinion. However, I don't understand why another person being gay upsets an individual so much. It's not affecting them in the slightest. Another reason to attempt to become higher than a populus.

Personally, I don't understand the reasoning behind protesting and such. Why are they so worried as to whether or not we believe in their religion? If we're already hated by God, why does it matter to those church goers what we do? It seems to me as though they've raised themselves onto some distant plateau above everyone else and now they believe their role is to inform us of our unquestionably infinite sins. Bull.

Off-Topic

They rag on the mormons all the time, as well as any other church that isn't theirs.

Stop coming to my door in the morning. :P

Edit:

el_sean: By 'these people' I was referring specifically to those who ARE crazy.

"In a news conference, Iwata said Wii isn't battling rivals directly because it's offering different, easier-to-play games." Hur-fing-ray.

Nice move, Nintendo. If you can't beat 'em, target another, easier to coerce, audience.

You can't judge or compare a religion based on their worst people. I would bet that it is just the minister's family that are the crazy, outspoken ones. The others know when to keep their mouths shut.

Oh, these wackos are just spiteful hateful people with serious mental problems.

I've seen them on youtube, their whole family is like that. I've been trying to figure out what is really their problem and I think i've reached a logical conclusion:

The reason they think everyone is a bunch of pedophiles, homosexuals (I have nothing against them btw, unless they are also one of the following), sodomites is because almost their entire family is full of pedos, sodomites and the like. It's been documented that Fred Phelps both sexually and phyiscally abused his daughter and his other kids .. and that's basically where shirley phelps's kids come from (I swear that woman looks like the vision of evil if there was ever one).

They are infused with so much hatred, there is really nothing else for them to do. I don't believe they've ever felt true love or happiness from anyone, so that's why they feel the need to spread their hateful messages to everyone else. It's quite sad .. especially since the small children involved are being raised to learn to hate others.

I don't believe 9/11 was because of MODS BAN ME PLEASE or gays or whatever. I don't think (based on the Bible) you could tell that that is Gods judgment.

But I do believe homosexuality is wrong. I just don't know how you could come to the conclusion from that.

God doesn't just hate MODS BAN ME PLEASE he hates all sinners. But no, we always have to focus on MODS BAN ME PLEASE or whatever.

Here's the thing. People love to hate. It's kind of a strange contradiction, but it's true. And everybody hates the Westboro Baptist Church. Regardless of your race, religion, or sexuality, everybody hates them. And this hate brings people together. You may disagree with somebody on war, politics, religion, etc. But this is something you can both agree on. So the news can keep reporting it, and get great ratings. Then the WBC gets the attention they're craving so much. It's a win-win for everyone

Don't even get me started on these WBC guys. They do a lot of protests in my town because it is so close to them. I really dislike their ways and beliefs. This is just another example how religion can monger hatred in some not-so-bright people (but certainly not all of them).

I really think these people are (pardon my french) media whores. They would not exsist if they didn't have the publicity that they get everywhere they go. From the news to the internet, they are always making headlines. If no one paid attention to them, maybe they would get up and leave. They picket with their offensive signs not because they believe in it, but because they know that they will get noticed. I can guarantee you that not one single person has ever been to a funeral that was picketed by these people, read their signs, and thought, "geez, maybe I should become another obediant, god-fearing person just like them." No. Way.

Also, I find it funny how they hate America so much. If they hate it, why don't they leave? It would make a lot of us happier. They hate one of the only countries that gives them the freedom and the right to say whatever they want. Ironic, eh?

I'm not a really religious person; I don't hate religion.
I just hate some of the wacko's that follow it, that's all.

You know, people in the Midwest are part of a large community that really know each other. I had the hardest time fitting in there because it felt like they didn't want me there. I was trying to join a community that was so meshed together that it felt almost a little rejecting of the outside world. I think this is why they say the things they do, because they feel like no one else opposes their opinions. I personally feel that homosexuality is wrong, but I'm not going to say something like that, because I hate the sin, not the sinner.

Yeah, I really don't like WBC. Everything they say is offensive and it perverts the meaning of Christianity. It's exactly like what the terrorists are doing to Islam's reputation, in my mind, except that WBC won't ever kill anyone (just drive them into a deep depression). They turn what should be a religion of love into meaningless hatred. Whatever, they can do what they want and I feel bad for them for having these radical beliefs and not having anyone that loves them.

My city has the second highest population of openly gay people per capita (first being San Franciso of course), and is easily the most liberal city in the midwest U.S. A few years back Fred Phelps & co came here to protest someone from my high school recieving a scholarship for gays and lesbians. A bunch of gay and lesbian couples lined up across the street from their protest and made out. It was absolutely hillarious :D .

I know I already made a post here, but:

don't pay ANY attention to these people, that is exactly what they want. They are sensationalist in-bred bastards who say and do nasty things to incite anger for their own needs and profit.

Like I say, don't take stupidity seriously.

Wow... please dont think that this is how a normal Christian is! Im not very religious, but Christians are really good people. A lot pf people I know are christian, and this so called church is just very messed up and is practicing false teachings. So dont think this is how Christians feel about soldiers and America, because we dont. Christians founded this nation... they arent going to be the ones who destroy it.

I'm sorry, I really try to stay away from organized religion, but I know enough to know about Christianity as a whole; and as such, I know that one of the main teachings of Christianity is to value and uphold all forms of human life, one of the most sacred being "love thy neighbor" or something similarly akin to that. To blatantly state the things that were uttered by Reverend Phelps I think, to me, would earn him that one-way ticket, and not the other way around.

People like that are the reason Christians and Christianity are hated so much by the media and the world. That person gives Christians a bad name. God doesn't hate gays he hates the sinful life that they live but he loves everyone of his creations.

The problem is that these fools do give good religious people a bad name. If these morons actually read their bible, they would understand that "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" thus meaning we are all in the same boat and I have no right to judge you, nor you judge me.

So when these incest hillbilly's hold up their "God hates MODS BAN ME PLEASE" signs, they fail to understand that the only MODS BAN ME PLEASE, are them.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have the right to preach against homosexuality from a free speech point of view, as they see it, but likewise they should know their own standing before the very God they are pissing off.

If there is a God, he is no respecter of person's.

Surely if Christians can 'interpret' the bible in any way that they want to both condemn and defend homosexuality, killing in wars, slavery, etc... then no interpretation is more correct than any other.

There is no way you can interpret the bible to defend homosexuality. The Bible is clearly against homosexuality.

Uh, god doesn't hate anyone. He loves everyone, perhaps to a fault. Sinners, terrorists, even MODS BAN ME PLEASE which is a pretty ugly word.

People usually revert to their most primal instincts to fear, hurt, and hate. Some people use religion as a crutch, "I only hate gays because the bible tells me to!" Jesus never said anything about gays. The Old Testament did, but it also said that you could sell your daughter, and stone your sister in law if she doesn't marry you after your brother dies. People need to take any religious document with a grain of salt. And this is coming from a lifelong devoted Catholic; minoring in Theology and lookin to get my deaconship.
