Need Some Help With WiiWare Decisions

Postby DonnyDarko420 » 16 Jun 2009 05:07

Hey guys,
I need some help with making some WiiWare purchases. i just loaded 2000 points onto my Wii for some new 'wares' and I've spent 600 points already on Bubble Bobble Plus (couldn't resist, the original is up there on my favorite games list).

So I still have 1400 to spend. Easiest way would be a 600 point game and an 800 point game, but having it come out to 2000 isn't the most important thing.

My original list of possible games was Bit.Trip Beat, Bobble Bobble Plus (which I bought), Adventure Island: The Beginning, Eduardo TST, and a few others like the Art Style games and some VC games I've already played, but eventually want to get on the Wii.

I was having some trouble deciding so I hopped online and looked at some reviews. Big mistake. I'm left with even more indecision. Eduardo sounds like it turned out boring but pretty to look at, Bit.Trip Beat is very short and quite hard, and Adventure Island apparently missed the mark. The VC games are games I either already own or played the heck out of and I'm just as undecided about the Art Style games as I was before I read the reviews.

So, what should I do? Should I stick with some of the games on my short list? I'm open to other game suggestions that aren't on there as well (that equal 1400 or less points). Or should I just go with 'Plan Z' and get Majora's Mask instead. I know I should go with what interests me, but I hate wasting money on games that aren't very good. So any help from you guys would be much appreciated.

Just so that you guys know what I already own...here is what I can think of off the top of my head:
FFCC:MLaaK
Lost Winds
Tetris Party
Dr. Mario Online RX
Mega Man 9
Bubble Bobble Plus
Strong Bad 1-5
World of Goo

Thanks guys. I trust you all more than any "journalist" out there, so let me know what you think.

If you're not limiting yourself to Wiiware games only, there are quite a few awesome VC games that you could buy. Specifically, SMB3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Majora's Mask, as you mentioned, Ocarina of Time, Actraiser, Punch-Out!!, Sin & Punishment, River City Ransom, Gunstar Heroes, Super Castlevania IV, Paper Mario, Startropics, F-Zero, Adventures of Lolo...any of those would be a good use of your money.

I haven't downloaded much Wiiware but Wild West Guns is pretty entertaining if you enjoy lightgun games. I heard good things about Gyrostarr, by High Voltage, but personally I didn't like it and feel like it was a waste of money.

Eduardo and Bit Trip Beat both get quite a bit more fun with 2 people, but if you don't see that happening, get an art style game and then save the remaining 800 for Icarian or Cave Story. And if neither of those are 800, but rather 1000, then just find or purchase one 20 oz pepsi product with a yellow rock band cap and the odds are heavily in your favor to turn that cap into 200 nintendo points.

As for which Art Style game: if you're looking for very surreal, abstract, 2 button control with interesting spacial physics and cool music: Orbient. If you want what is widely regarded as the most enjoyable AS game on wiiware since it throws in a sort of shooter element with IR, has single button control, some nice clean graphics, a sweet 3D match 4 mechanic with plenty of strategy, some neat music, and and endless mode (that puzzle game staple that Orbient lacks) get Cubello. If you want what is, IMO, a combo of those two because of great IR usage and 2 button control, the most addictive and challenging puzzle mechanic of the 3, the best music of the 3; the great number of different modes INCLUDING a 2 player competitive mode, endless mode, optional 2 player co-op in the standard mode, and a sprint mode for the seasoned veteran and sadist *inhale* then get Rotohex. At first, clearing all 8 colors in the main single-player mode of the game will seem too difficult and damn near impossible, but as your quickness and vision/foresight/management of your rotations improve, it will feel awesome, and when you finally clear all 8 colors, you will feel like a champion. Moreso than after beating the final stage of Cubello or Orbient. Mainly since it's always a sort of minimarathon to get there, not just like being able to jump to the final stage and keep trying it. Anyway, this is more long-winded than I intended. I address all 3 As games in my Rotohex user review on the site, and go into more detail on why Rotohex is awesome. In the end, however, it might have just struck a personal chord with me. Everyone's different.

Im not going off your idea for a 600 and a 800 point game, but I would say Ocarina of Time all the way.Its 1000 points but trust me its a pretty long game and will keep you going with tons of extras. Plus it got a 10 out of 10 on tons of game rating websites. To me, it would be the perfect game for you. (P.S. WORLD OF GOO ROCKS!)

Thanks Guys.

As for the VC games you guys mentioned, I already bought most of them. Majora's Mask and a few others are still titles I want to get, but for right now, I was looking for something I haven't played (so I figured I should go with WiiWare).

Joeshabadoo - I think I'll go with your plan of getting Rotohex. I've been interested in getting the art style games and am glad that you went into detail as to why it is the best of the three. So, for now, I'll get Rotohex, and I'll save my 800 points for something down the road.

By the way - If you guys haven't picked up Bubble Bobble Plus and enjoy the classic, I recommend doing so! I'm having a great time with it at only 600 points! (More if you want the DLC packs, but you get plenty of content with your initial $6!)

awesome, I hope you like it!

One of my favorite parts is the dynamic music that slowly ramps up with each hex you clear of the current required color up to 6, and then a massive music shift once you've clear 6 of em. Also the sometimes atonal chime noises that each triangle makes as it falls into the playfield. It's stylized, addictive, and challenging while controlling well (as long as you're season wiimote user and know to rest your arm on your lap while keeping the pointer on screen at all times). You can;t ask for too much more for $6

I have so far won with every code from Pepsi, and lucky for me they started putting the Rock Band caps on Mountain Dew. I have made 8400 points so far.

World of Goo is a must have. Lost Winds is awesome. Final Fantasy IV: The Years After is really cool and Swords and Soldiers (I have gotten this one yet) is supposedly great. There are a bunch more but these are probably my first choices. 8)

dude, I have won with every code as well, all 88 of them so far, and I've only paid for 2 bottles! I go running alot, and I find 2-4 caps on the ground every time out. So that's 17600 points, for a current paid total of $3. I've picked up a whole bunch of Wiiware that I was on the fence about, and some VC too. By the end of Secember (end of promotion) I will be set on DSi Points and Wiipoints for the rest of the two platform's life cycles, all thanks to Pepsi and Harmonix :D

Where do you go jogging, that's a lot of caps. Any tips for scavenging cap would be much appreciated.

I run all around Queens in New York City, occasionally in other boroughs. Also yesterday I was job-hunting in Manhattan all day and found like 14 caps. Mad nintendo points up in this bitch, lol. I've also been doing the mycokerewards caps for a while to get free 20oz coke products, and yesterday I found a yellow cap that I thought was a rock band one, but when I brought it home I saw that it was a "Drink up. Fill up" promo cap from a sunkist bottle. Checked out that situation, entered the code and got a $100 gas card!

I'm just goin cap crazy!

tips? well they're yellow, so just keep an eye out, and I'm also not afraid to ask someone for their cap in a restaurant or on the street if I see they're done. Don't want to see that bottle/cap end up in the trash and go fishing, I'm not one of those bottle-hoarding/scavenging asian grandmas

omfg, guys. wow. ill start at the beginning:

I woke up today knowing that I wanted to go out for a longer run than usual. I then recalled the location of a wholesale beverage distribution/recycling center. It is about 6.5 miles from my house, and would be a nice round trip with a little breather in the middle. I was hoping to just find caps littering the ground next to the recycling machines. So on my way there I find 3 pepsi rock band caps, and some other caps related to other rewards type things. When I arrive there, I see this miniature tribe, looked like an Hispanic family (not the best neighborhood where I was) with shopping carts and pallets FULL of bottles (glass and plastic) and cans. Part of me gets extremely excited, but I decide to run around the area for a few minutes to try and muster up 4-5 bottles/cans to bring them, as a peace offering of sorts. I find 4 bottles and head back there. I walk up holding the bottles smiling and clearly showing that I am offering the bottles. I then take out one of the yellow pepsi caps and attempt to ask them if they have any of these caps (my spanish is awful but I got the point across). Now these people need to take the hard plastic caps off when recycling them anyway, so I was hoping they could help me out, but they also find a majority of their bottles without caps on them. Sure enough, one of the adults calls to this cute kid and he emerges with this big grocery bag FULL of caps. My eyes lit up. I felt like Indiana Jones, bartering with natives in search of the grail, and holy shovel did I find it. This bag contained just over 100 caps that related to different rewards offers, and 55!! yes FIFTY FIVE pepsi rock band caps :o  :o  :D

so I get some great exercise, enough mycokerewards caps for roughly 9 20oz coke coupons, and $110 in Nintendo Points. For free. If I keep this up and keep going back there once a week, I think I can hit that 1000 cap limit before the end of the promotion and accumulate enough Wii points or DSi points to easily last me through the lifespan of both download platforms.

So awesome. also just saw that there's a 20000 point cap on the shop channel, lol. Anyone know the cap for the DSi Shop Channel?

^ Wow! You're one lucky guy!

So far I've gotten a nice 600 Wii points from this. XD But I'm thinking of going in a "bottle cap journey" myself... I just haven't figured out when or where.

But yeah, this promo is too good to let it pass.

On-topic... my brother downloaded WiiWare Bomberman and so far we like it a lot. It has local and online multiplayer, and a lot of different modes. It's a lot of fun. :D
