The button images are too compressed.

I can't even see compression artifacts on them, they are very tiny. I run at 1680x1050.

I have a new idea for the forums. Since the Friend Codes database was ended, how about a custom field entry in user profiles where users can enter in FCs for all their NWFC games.

I made some mockups of this idea in hopes users can have forum space to put their FCs in and they control their own FCs. As for the profile view, I'll be ok with setting an "overflow: scroll" property if expanding the sig box background is out of the question for this. Giving the NWFC space it's own spot on profile pages is fine too.

our games database basically satisfies the friend code feature of what we used to have, plus some.

instead of a just a clumsy list of your codes (which are totally useless as a list), you can add all of your games to your profile, others can see who has what, and then contact one another to exchange codes if they want.

your idea does give me some thoughts about how we might be able to figure out some more ways to advertise this feature throughout the site, but for now, i think the database is a little better way to show your games than another list... thanks for the input though!

Well I know about the Games Database, it's just it has the same issues that the Friend Codes database used to have. People have to contact you and wait for you to get the time to update things that are incorrect/missing in the database and sometimes people get to wanting to make their info available now, but can't due to something being up with the database.

i'm usually pretty quick about adding anything that is missing if someone requests it. are there some other problems you've had ("but can't due to something being up with the database")?

i'll see what we can do about making it more visible, but any system is still going to require a 2-way conversation; a list just isn't very interactive, give people a good way to get in touch, or make it practical to list all of your games in a profile.

now that i think about it, we DO sort of have a field like you were proposing... signatures! lol.. plenty of people use that space to list some games and their FC.

Same with me as Artistic_Anarchy said, the site is wayyyy off. I thought maybe it's because my 1440x900 monitor recently DIED one morning with no warning whatsoever, and I'm now forced to use the laptop's default 1280x800 max resolution.... buuut if he's getting the same thing, maybe it's not just me. I'm using Comodo Dragon(Chromium-based rather than Chrome) as well, so it should be somewhat different from Firefox 7 despite having the same issues, and I do have ABP turned off for this site.

the horizontal scrolling...that's intentional, unfortunately.

Nnooo, the designers of the banner and the game it represents (escape vektor), asked me to force the page to be at least a certain width, so people could see the whole thing. i'm not sure if it has the desired outcome though, since some people might scroll just far enough to see the blog content, and not bother exploring the entire banner.

since the two messages above are more 'bug inquiries' than complaints, that probably answers the question. if we get enough complaints, i will change it and notify the guys at nnooo that their request for a super-wide page was creating usability issues for many users.

Looks fine with 1440 by 900 resolution, but I still have to scroll a little to the right to see the whole banner. Not to big of a deal for me, but it might upset those people who have a much smaller resolution, or who don't have widescreen...

Edit: Looks perfect on my laptop. (1920 by 1080 resolution)

No offence but I really don't like having to read the earlier comments on the forums, it was so much better when I could just click on a news post and see all the comments. When reading them from the forums, every post takes a lot more space than necessary (don't mind this when I'm just browsing through forums) and it was just much better having every comment on one page.

we don't have an active field for typing on the same page as the other person's comments on the forums, i think that's why there's the quote button. is that not working for some reason? maybe you're asking for a second kind of 'quote' button, that just does the "@username" bit instead of also quoting a whole post?

i could maybe try to cook up a button that will let you quickly format it to look like that, but not actually link, and you'd still have to type in the user's name..
