E3 2012 Nintendo predictions

Discussion not specific to any of the platforms (which have their own forums).

Wii U
  • Pack-in game(s) to include Face Raiders Deluxe and Wii U Play (or some variant of Play)
  • No haptic touch or Vitality Sensor
  • Big emphasis on eShop. Upcoming eShop titles include: Sonic 4 Ep. II, the House of the Dead 4, Pac-Man U, Bit Trip Runner 2, entire VC and WiiWare library, F-Zero GX (GCN), the resurrection of “Cabbage” and some other Miyamoto-planned eShop game, and now—surprisingly—digital downloads of retail games.
  • Future plans for Swap Note, Video Chat.
  • Wii-to-Wii U game transfer information
  • No Friend Codes except for Video Chat and Swap Note. Players will be able to choose friends/rivals in online lobbies or swap usernames.
  • Retro-developed FPS; probably either Metroid: Galactic Federation or Geist 2.
  • New Sonic game for Wii U (potentially playable). A Sonic site—TSSZ.org—said that Sega was going to go the Spyro Skylanders route and make figurines. They’re a site known for making stuff up…but they also hit the mark a few times. After seeing Rayman Legends, I’m willing to believe this. Plot will probably be something like Robotnik needs to find a magical bug and Tails creates a shrink-ray. Normal world takes place on the TV screen, and the miniature world will be on the U screen. “Honey, I Shrunk the Hedgehog” or something.
  • Preview trailers include: Super Smash Bros 4 (yes, in some way I do believe some CGI of new characters will be shown to build on the hype train), Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Black Ops 2, Star Fox, Eternal Darkness II, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Mortal Kombat, Dead Rising 3, Resident Evil 6, Wii U Fit, Fire Emblem, GoldenEye 2 (or other 007 title), Sonic Generations (Sonic fans will be all like, what the heck? I thought Sega already had a new Sonic game and Sega will be all like, yeah we do but we’re also making Sonic Generations for U, too, and fans will be all like, well, that’s good...but what extras are you putting in there? And Sega will be all like extras? It’ll be a download…and cheaper…and fans will be all like, alright…)
  • No Zelda, but it is mentioned that it is in planning stages.
  • No 3D Mario shown, except for perhaps a screen shot or two.

3DS
  • No 3DS redesign.
  • The House of the Dead and NiGHTS game (I’ve been making this prediction for the past four years…one of these days I have to be right).
  • Side-scrolling Metroid and DK Country.
  • No Conduit 3. But maybe a new FPS IP from High Voltage, but from a publisher other than Sega.
  • Wario Ware.
  • New 3DS Zelda mentioned in development, but not ready to be shown yet. Maybe a few screen shots.

you know at this point I would be more than happy with just a port of f zero gx with online.

your predictions seem very specific, like "Metroid: Galactic Federation" (crap name, no offence), where are you getting these names from.

None taken. Since Metroid Prime 2, I've imagined taking the Metroid universe and going a Halo-esque route with one of the Galactic Federation soldiers. In fact, I'm sure I've seen other people's wishful thoughts surrounding this idea.

Besides, it looks like you've got some "insider knowledge" if you're specific and are actually right. ;)

I wanna see Wii U with a new system design and color.
Plus, it'd be nice to see upgraded, wireless Classic Controllers with rumble, clickable sticks, and ZL/ZR analog triggers (they aren't just for Virtual Console games, ya know.)

Hope? ...maybe?

It would appear that Nintendo renewed the trademark this year (under the "Intent to Use" category), which could mean nothing, and we should probably look at it that way... BUT if I remember correctly, Nintendo did the same thing last year with Luigi's Mansion. IDK, could be grasping at straws, just thought I'd share it for those interested... :(

It's probably not out of the realm of possibility, vinniebrock. Dennis Dyack has made a number of cryptic remarks when asked about a possible sequel. Silicon Knights hasn't had the best of receptions post-ED, as their efforts with Too Human were critically panned. What better way to get back in everyone's good graces and have a solid financial backing than working with Nintendo again?

I think if they were being backed by nintendo right now, they wouldn't be wasting their time suing epic.

apologies for getting waaay off-topic, this'll be the only post on this subject:
gtt wrote:I think if they were being backed by nintendo right now, they wouldn't be wasting their time suing epic.

Eh, pretty sure that's strictly between those two companies. Plus, didn't that start a few years ago? (and is almost over?)
EDIT:

Well, you can trust Dyack as far as you can throw him, unfortunately. Something like ED2 is obviously one of the few things that could bring SK back to respectability, but it (probably) has to go through Nintendo; which is where things get confusing. I think Ninty owns part of the company, which is the only reason I could see them doing something to help SK avoid going under / avoid a wasted investment. Hence my small hope of the game happening
gtt wrote:So I think if there is an ED2 in the works, SK has nothing to do with it.

I don't think they can do it without SK in some capacity (pretty sure they both hold integral rights/patents for the property), so if it happens, it'll have to be a collaborative effort. i.e. SK x Retro

over in the sense that the judge told them to hurry the fuck up and quit wasting everyone's time by saying if they win, they are entitled to a maximum of a dollar(yes, singular) in damages.

and the fact they didn't drop it then, tells me they are either A)desperate for money on an appeal, or B)really, really, really, really need someone to blame for their failures.

Nintendo isn't one to stand around and throw good money after bad OR let someone they want to associate their name with be such a joke. So I think if there is an ED2 in the works, SK has nothing to do with it.

The E3 Predictions/Hype Thread

Postby Waluigi » 27 May 2012 19:54

Sorry mods... dont know how I missed this

For me:
3DS
-AC, LM2, PM, NSMB2 release dates
-Unveiling of Majora's Mask 3D and Fire Emblem NA release
-New Kirby, Donkey Kong, Metroid games
-Several localizations of Japan games
-New Colors and Bundles (Cobalt Blue, Ice White, FE:A bundles specifically)
-A major surprise no one expects
-A major update that completely redos the 3DS online, eshop, and home, keeping it more in line with WiiU, complete with accounts
-More 3DSWare games announced
-3DS VC will be supported much more frequently, complete with announcements for VC releases of Wario Land and a special edition of Kirby Tilt n Tumble with gyro features for Kirby's 20th

WiiU
-NSMBMii, Pikmin 3, New F-Zero or Starfox at launch
-Al least 6 Nintendo games announced and shown (other than Mario and Pikmin)
-Graphics better than PS360, similar to the Dreamcast -> Xbox1 difference (WiiU is dreamcast, new PS/Xbox is xbox1)
-Big 3rd party support
-Mostly ports with a few exclusive 3rd party games
-Return of a long dormant and forgotten franchise
-More than one controller support
-Black/White consoles at launch
-HUGE online unveiling
-Mother HD collection and Shenmue 3 megatons (REALLY reaching here :p)

Sony
-Vita price cut and/or bundles
-Nothing new for PS3
-A good amount of games for Vita, including PS3 ports
-New colors
-Maybe a revision ala PSP-2000? HDMI out?

Re: The E3 Predictions/Hype Thread

Postby PatrickTheHuman » 27 May 2012 20:57

I'm just going to say what I want to see.

Likely
-Pokemon Gray, on 3DS witch Combines Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, with fully 3D models.
- Super Smash Bros. 4 teaser.
- GBA and SNES, games on 3DS VC.

Possible
- Proper Mario and Sonic crossover.
- Sonic Generations "DX" on Wii U. Bonus levels, cutscenes, missions, etc. Would also come with Sonic 4 Ep. 1&2.
- Video service similar to ITunes for 3DS and Wii U.
- New StarFox for Wii U.

LOL, RIGHT.
- Mega Man 25'th anniversary collection for 3DS and Wii U. 1-10, X1-6, Z1-4, Zx/Advent, Legends 1/2, & Bass, Soccer, Power Battles, and extras. Maybe it could be something like the Street Fighter Bundle?
- Major Steam support for Wii U.
- Pokemon game on Wii U where you go to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh. Would be compatible with Gray.
- Mother and/or Shenmue. Please? PLEASE?! I WIL LOVE YOU FOREVEE- *passes out*

Last minute Wii U system predictions!

Postby GoNiners » 01 Jun 2012 16:20

We are days away from the full unveiling of the WiiU! I have a system prediction that I've not seen rumored or discussed anywhere.

Here it is...

We know the controller will have a camera that allows for things like video chatting. I predict that the camera will do much more than that. I see the camera having face recognition and ... movement recognition! Meaning, you could set the controller on a stand, or something like that, and the camera will allow you the option to play certain games or navigate certain menus without a controller. Sure this isn't innovative, but it would allow for the WiiU to have Kinect-like functionality right out of the box. No additional equipment needed.

We also know that the Wii remote can interact with the WiiU controller. But I doubt we will see that implemented like PS Move.

But anyway, hands-free gaming no longer exclusively on Xbox. That's my prediction!

What do you all think? And does anyone else have any last minute WiiU system and/or controller predictions?

Voice recognition would be cool, and it loads up your specific Nintendo Network account/cloud saves.

Postby Eternal Rain » 01 Jun 2012 16:32

One prediction I have is that maybe the controller will have an outward facing camera now, allowing for AR technology to be used on Wii U just like the 3DS. The leaked pic from a few weeks back didn't show the back of the controller, so it's possible.

Game related, I'm hoping we get to see something Metroid or Star Fox related. Whether it's Metroid V (as in we finally get a sequel to Fusion, no more interquels after 10 long years of them), or another Prime game, I do hope we hear some Metroid stuff. I really want to see a brand new Star Fox though. While I do think remaking SF64 was a good idea to get the series noticed again with it's finest entry, it's about time we either get a true sequel to Assault (Q-Games admitted that Command will likely not be canon once another new SF comes along) or a reboot that returns to the series roots.

I predict some kind of connectivity with the 3Ds. Like lost said it can easily serve as 3rd and 4th controllers. I see streaming vidoes and stuff to the 3DS and even though 3DS has its own shop and can get demos on its own, I can see special content coming from the WiiU to the 3DS.

I'm hoping they some how let us play 3DS/DS games on our TV using the Wii"U" controller. (*I got the idea from the GameBoy Player that came out for the gamecube*) I know there is a very small chance of this happening so you can all laugh now, I don't care.

Actually I've been hoping for that to be sure. I dunno about 3DS games, but DS games seen the way to go.

With Sega making an announcement for an announcement tomorrow for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, I'm going to add an addendum to my previous "Transformed for Wii U" prediction. Transformed will feature guest racers (again, sort of) and on the Nintendo side Miis will return, and Fox McCloud will be playable with a modified Arwing, Landmaster, and Blue Marine.

...If anything, it's fun to think of the possibility. 8)
