dkanddiddy wrote:Beat Super Mario 64 with only 59 stars. I have no inclination to go back and finish the game for real. It dissapointed me, to be honest. The controls were very hard for me to grasp, and the levels were not as deep as I expected them to be. The final boss fight was probably the worst final boss fight in any game I ever played too. The music was awful, and the fight was the exact same as every other fight, just with more health for the boss. A good game, but only an average Mario game to me.

And the only controls I hated were the camera controls (and with the exception of Sunshine, I've hated the controls for the camera in all the 3D console Marios, since they are restricted). The levels aren't that deep, but I enjoyed them. I enjoyed Sunshine's and both Galaxy games' way more, but still enjoyed them.
I think the game is a "had to have been there" kind of game to full enjoy it like it was an amazing game. For example, I didn't play it until well after Super Mario Sunshine, so while I enjoyed not having FLUDD all the time, I still preferred Sunshine to SM64. I also made the effort to get all 120 Stars in that.

Don't forget the ever popular Red Coins on Poison River special course that you need to do a long tedious sequence of hauling Yoshi to an island to unlock the way (and if Yoshi hits water, you gotta start all over) so that you can use FLUDD to drive a leaf down poisonous waters (and the poison water seeps through the leaf) to collect 8 Red Coins without falling out of the course or touching the water (both are instant kills).

Anyways Wario Land: SML 3 just came out on 3DS VC, so I'm playing that and Final Fantasy III DS right now. Everything else is on the backburner.

dkanddiddy wrote:Yea, I played the N64 version. And when I said the music was horrible, I was only talking about the music in the final boss fight. I liked the other music.
