In other words, a certain game IP that appeals to you, but you feel like "if this series were a different genre then maybe it'd appeal more towards me." One example would have to be the game "Rabbids Go Home." The Rabbids series has pretty much always been known for being a party game/minigame compilation series, but in 2009 an entry in the series that was of a different genre was released, called "Rabbids Go Home," which was more of a quirky action-adventure game. The game was pretty well received and considered a nice change up for the series, with some people even saying they wish Ubisoft would make another Rabbids game in that style.
My vote goes for Mario and Sonic, for reasons that should be obvious. Now I have nothing against the current series of Mario and Sonic games, but I do have to agree that it does feel very strange that we've gotten 3 sports/minigame compilation game crossovers, and yet not one platformer crossover. I mean, heck, these two characters are best known for being the two biggest platformer stars in the world, so why hasn't this happened yet? I say that for the 4th Mario and Sonic it's time for Nintendo and Sega to finally give fans what they asked for since before even the original Mario and Sonic: a crossover platformer that combines the strengths of each series. Seeing as we now have a Sonic game (Generations) and a Mario game (3D Land) that combine the best of the old and the new, a crossover game where the best of both worlds come together shouldn't be far behind.
