By making COMMANDS (Which is what I'm talking about) geared more towards a fighting game, you're going to confuse your audience very quickly. This is going to lead to a lot of second-hand sales and a lot of unhappy customers and businessmen.

Well not really actually. In your comment you made the remark that stated that they (those at sony making the game) were in fact "missing the 'point' of smash" to which I stated in as many words above might be for a reason. They're not going after the average smash player so much as they're going after the competitive smash player who feels disenfranchised with the series after Brawl. And really thats the point that I was making in the comments above. The focus on combat and balance over crazy level design and item selections. The drab back grounds lack of overpowered items, are all things competitive players are taking out of the game when they limit stages and completely turn off item spawns. This game is more tame in comparison to smash and as such seems to be targeting itself right at hardcore competative smash fans. However many or few that exist.

I couldn't care less about how the game sells or how its recieved critically. To me the existence of this game gives competitive smash players an avenue to exit the smash series and pick this game up as a replacement. If it succeeds brilliantly in that manner it can only be a win-win situation as the complainers finale have the game that they wanted since melee, and we get to be rid of the whining and incessant nagging that calls for 'hardcore' prioritzing of the Smash franchise.

The brawl series sold 10 million copies and most if not the overwhelming majority of those players where casual players picking up the game to duke it out using their favorite character amongst nintendos flagship franchises (the exact reasoning you used above in point A). If the more comeptitve players move onto PSA:Battle Royale its not gonna put much of a dent into the user base of Smash players, I just dont see why so many people are angered or feel threatened by its existence. Sure its unoriginal but never was there an out cry against this sort of thing when CN had its version, or TMNT, or Jump Super/Ultimate Stars. Why start now? Because its Sony thats doing it? Makes no sense unless maybe people truly ARE threatened by Sony trying to make a game capable of competing with smash in the same genre.

Whatever the final roster is, you can bet that Snake will be there, and with a similar moveset from Brawl.

Watch Microsoft Scramble to join in. There game Sarge Wins Staring Sarge, Banjo, Kazooie, and... Lets just face it Sarge blasting Banjo in the face would be all they could do. Rip off tick me off. Come on Sony do something original that people actually give a crap about, (Blu-Ray is more or less a HD DVD) you cant ride on your quality name that you have been dragging through the mud since the 80's for forever. Grow a pair.

Can they do that? Sakurai and his team should own the moveset created specificly for that character. Sure Nintendo doesnt own Snake but its not like the way snake moves or acts in mgs was how he moved or acted in brawl. It be interesting outside of the normal standard punches and kicks what special moves PSA snake would get, cause I tell you right now if they cut and paste snake right out of brawl, only goes so far as to make him old snake for their game, that IS grounds for a lawsuit as not one single iota of creativity was taken by the developement team to differentiate some one elses work thus making it a derivative liability for sony. Something I dont think they want stalling the sale of their game.

I'm guessing that Snake will use actual guns this time.

Snake should be in this title.... so he can be promptly removed in the next SSB. :D At least he'll fit in 100% in this one.

As for the game itself, I've read many previews and heard it was addicting. It probably is but something about the aesthetics of the game completely turn me off. Some of the stage layouts look so... awkward. It's like if the stages were on a theater stage, I would question why there are props and stairs on that particular space because it looks so awkward sitting there. And then the background stuff that's filled with Sony franchise stuff is a mess! Their stages should not be fusion of two games! A God of War/Patapon stage? Gross. Biggest pet peeve with the game's aesthetics is that art direction. It looks completely generic sadly. Sure there are colorful creatures and characters, but the visual pizzazz is missing. Everything looks like an Unreal Engine 3 model with splashes of blue and yellow but none of the charisma. Parappa lost his mojo. :(

That Buzz trivia stage is genius though.
Just be nice. Or else.

Can they do that?

I don't think they can, but it depends on who owns the moveset (which as you said, is most likely owned by Sakurai and his team), but if it ends up being owned by Kojima, I would be like "wtf?!" and a bit like "Was that expected?", and all in all, it'll be interesting to see what Sakurai thinks of this game.

I think I'm gonna get this, if only for Parappa and (likely) Jak reps. Anyone else is a nice bonus :p

Eventhubs has a pretty cool analysis of the game up here for people in the competative scene and gives a detailed break down of the games mechanics as well as thoughts and opinions on the games existence itself.

I know this is late, but the game is out and $40 at BB for the next few hours. I couldn't get it because my local BB is sold out.

I imagine it'll be dropped to $40 permanently in a couple of weeks. It seems decent, but unbalanced.
